OBJECTIVES AND AGENDA
Participants will learn lessons and games using the hundreds chart to build number sense.
Today will be divided into two categories: lessons and games.
WHAT IS A HUNDREDS CHART?
A 10-by-10 grid with the numbers 1 to 100 printed in the squares.
WHY USE A HUNDREDS CHART?
Provide a framework for students to think about our base ten system.
Allows students to build a mental model of the mathematical structure of our number system.
Allows children to explore concepts from counting to adding two-digit numbers.
Gives the opportunity to bring in several Mathematical Practices.
YOUR TURN!
Take a moment to make a list of all the ways you currently use the hundreds chart in your classroom.
Turn and talk to a partner about what you currently do in your classroom.
