Using SuccessFactors during PRD Cycle Adding Goals – both Performance and Development Goals
For: All Staff
PRD Phase: Goal Setting Ongoing
Conversations Year End Review
Task Either before or after meeting your manager for setting Performance and Development goals:
Performance Goals are created in SuccessFactors, with measures on completion
Development Goals are created, aligned to the 70:20:10 development model
Outcome Performance Goals and Development Goals are entered in to SuccessFactors and you are ready to
notify your Manager/assigned PRD Supervisor to view them in SuccessFactors.
In SuccessFactors You have logged in to SuccessFactors and are viewing your ‘Home’ dashboard – click the ‘Home’
drop-down list to select ‘Performance Goals’:
The Performance Goals page will display:
Adding Performance Goals 1: With the Performance Goals page displaying click on ‘+ Add Goal’ then choose either ‘Add
Goal’ or ‘Use SMART Goal Wizard’:
2: When creating a new Goal, you will have the choice of a ‘Personal Goal’, or a ‘Library Goal’
– click on ‘Personal Goal’:
3: The ‘Add Goal’ form will display – enter details, measures, then click ‘Save Changes’
Although ‘Measure’ is optional, adding measures helps to know when the goal is achieved: this can
be simply ‘Produce X number of documents’ or ‘Event positive rating above 80%’.
4: Your goal will be listed Repeat step 1-3 to continue to add goals. 3 – 6 Performance goals is a good number. Performance
Goals will automatically display in your Year End Review when available at the end of the year:
Adding Development Goals Similarly to Performance Goals – access the Development Goals page via the ‘Home’ drop-down list
on the Home dashboard:
Follow step 1 for adding Performance Goals by clicking on ‘Add Goal’ except:
2: The ‘Add Development Goal’ form will display:
Select ‘Category’ choice: this will mainly be ‘Current Role’ but could be for ‘Future Role’ as part of
career planning and progression, or ‘Personal’ development goals – you can add all three types of
goals as part of your development plan.
Enter one or more descriptors for the 70:20:10 development model to clarify how the
development goal will be achieved.
Narrow the date range if applicable, then click ‘Save & Close’ when complete.
Repeat this process for each Development Goal.
An example is given below:
You will see Development Goals listed in that section, repeat steps 1-3 to add more. Development
Goals will automatically display in your Year End Review when available at the end of the year.
Next Steps Once you have finished adding ‘Performance Goals’ and ‘Development Goals’ you can let your
manager know so they can see them in their own SuccessFactors dashboard.
As you work on your goals during the Ongoing Conversations phase, update the status of your goals
until they are complete by ‘Editing Goals’ below.
You can add more goals as needed throughout the year, as well as edit existing
goals - just follow the steps above.
Editing Goals For each goal click on the ‘3-dot’ options menu, and select ‘Edit goal’:
The form will open where you can edit then save your changes – such as update the goal ‘Status’.
