HOW WE IDENTIFY TOP TALENTThe Simulation OverviewEquitysim has the benefit of being able to observe students within classes over a 4 month period. We collect data on all the interactions students make with the simulation allowing us to develop deep insights on their behaviors. Below are screenshots of the simulation. As students manage their portfolios, they are required to record the rationale behind each decision (image on right) - giving us greater insight into their strategies and financial market insights.

How Time Helps Removes Bias and ErrorTraditionally, most assessments like resume screening, video recordings, and in-person interviews capture only a limited snapshot of data during one point in time. Not only does this inhibit the ability to observe change in learning ability, but it allows first impression (attribution) bias to impact observations on the candidate’s traits. This can often lead to an improper evaluation of the candidate’s work behaviors. In contrary, by tracking behaviors first via simulation, we are able to collect multiple data points to more accurately identify the person’s traits. These are then validated through multiple industry approved psychometric surveys and personality assessments.

HOW WE IDENTIFY TOP TALENTAnalysis of the DataTo illustrate our ability in turning our collected time value data into trait insights, we’ve isolated three behaviours for analysis below: total time spent on platform, usage frequency, and number of activities. We can see that these two students have distinct working styles - while neither is deemed better than the other, this level of insight may help in evaluating fit or how best to fill gaps on a current team.

Student A: Has more Consistent Working Style

Student B: Procrastinates but works hard at the end of a deadline

Insights from the Learning CurveBy compiling all the behaviors and personality traits over an extended time frame, we are able to create a proxy for one’s aptitude to learn (learning curve). Industry research indicates that the learning curve and speed at which a candidate is able to pick up and apply concepts is the highest predictor of future performance success. Our results show that interns who learn quickly are highly correlated with top performance scores. This is just one element of how we determine our overall score for potential - which is collected over thousands of data points shown below.
