Planning Examples
• Conference day to train a building• Technology to support special education• Websites• Training for a grant• Partner with another initiative• Support specific programs• Support specific grade level or curriculum
initiatives
Time Frame• Use the spring to identify your goals and
needs for the following year• Attend the BOCES information session
in May• Meet with your planner – the earlier the
better!• Before summer break – identify TIF
participants and Regional Workshop participants
Tips• Start planning early• Build relationships with your planner and
trainer(s)• Don’t be afraid to ask for customized
courses to meet your objectives• Encourage administrators to “pop-in” on
training sessions• Half-day sessions can double the number
that get training• Two half day sessions a week or two apart
work well
More Tips• Don’t be afraid to address issues that come up –
survey participants• Don’t forget to include administrators• Effective advertising / communication• Sometimes you need to “target” individuals or
groups• Monitor signups and sub situations so you can
cancel if necessary – 1 week notice required• DONT WASTE YOUR DAYS!!!• Tap into Regional Days for additional “free”
opportunities
I just can’t get subs!
Use BOCES trainers as:• Resource mentor to push in• Have trainers available during lunch and
planning periods• Offer training after school• Summer workshops• Last resort….Saturdays
What’s New in 2008-09• One Day Workshops• Targeted to specific grade/topic/subject
areas• Helps when there are individuals or
small groups that need training• Schedule available NOW!• District does not get charged a Model
Schools day until FIVE teachers have attended sessions.****
• Stay tuned for location announcements
Added “Perks” Other “free” training opportunities
• IEP Direct / RTIm Direct• Web training – SchoolWires Team• Notes Training • Student Management Systems• Literacy Programs• Data Warehouse / Data Mentor help• Don’t be afraid to call and ask!
