Immunization Assessment Reports• The Minnesota Immunization Information Connection

(MIIC) offers easy-to-use immunization assessment reports to help monitor immunization rates for child and adolescent vaccines.

• The assessment reports offer clinic-based and county-based immunization rates as a tool to assist in monitoring immunization coverage rates and plan improvement activities.

• NEW: Fact Sheets about the uses of these reports for providers• Located on MIIC User Guidance website

List BasedMIIC feature: List-based assessment reports

MIIC builds a relationship between a patient and a clinic when a shot is given to that patient and entered by that clinic. Users must inactivate patients that are no longer part of their

practice.

The list based assessment can be used to get rates for active patients only Many EMRs can produce a list of patients that MIIC can use to

calculate rates

Page 18: Using MIIC for Immunization Practice Miriam Muscoplat, MPH Sudha Setty, MPH

Using Reports for Quality Improvement

• Run Baseline Report: Run an assessment report to establish rates and identify the areas most in need of improvement.

• Perform Evaluation: Measure both the steps taken to improve clinic process and the improvement in immunization rates by monitoring activity timelines and by periodically re-running assessment reports.

• Having solid quality improvement plans and activities in place can help health care providers demonstrate meaningful use of electronic health record immunization data.

• Monitoring and acting to improve immunization rates helps protect patients and the community from vaccine-preventable disease.

Page 19: Using MIIC for Immunization Practice Miriam Muscoplat, MPH Sudha Setty, MPH

Submit Client Query

• The Submit Client Query feature allows you to submit a list of clients to MIIC and receive the immunization records of those on the list. • An added benefit is that the immunization records can

then be loaded into your organization’s electronic health record system, giving you up to date immunization data.

Page 20: Using MIIC for Immunization Practice Miriam Muscoplat, MPH Sudha Setty, MPH

Uses for Submit Client Query• School nurses use this function to review immunization

records of students to see if they are compliant with Minnesota’s school immunization law.

• Health plans use this function to get data to report on how their plan members are meeting national health goals. They also publicly report this data to show the quality of health care received under their plans.

• Clinic staff can use this function to update immunization records, especially patients that have recently joined their practice.

Page 21: Using MIIC for Immunization Practice Miriam Muscoplat, MPH Sudha Setty, MPH

Client Follow Up• Identifies patients who are due or overdue for

immunizations and uses a process called reminder/recall to follow-up with those individuals

• Can be used with the Childhood or Adolescent Immunization Summary Reports
