Using Google Earth to View Mineral Titles Quick Guide

1. Download and install Google Earth: http://earth.google.com

2. Go to DataBC: http://www.data.gov.bc.ca/

3. Select Geographic Services from the menu bar:

5. Scroll down the page to Mining and Petroleum

6. Click the Google Earth icon in the Mining and Petroleum section:

7. Click Open with Google Earth in the file

8. Google Earth will open and zoom into British Columbia.

9. Locate your area using the Search box:

10. In Google Earth, you can search for a location by Place Name or Latitude, Longitude in Degrees

Minutes Seconds or Decimal formats:

11. The Mining and Petroleum layers are loaded into the Places section of the sidebar under the

folder BCGov Mining and Petroleum WMS:

12. Under the folder BCGov Mining and Petroleum WMS you will find layers from the Mineral Titles

Branch, such as Mineral, Placer and Coal Tenures as well as Reserves:

Each of these folders will expand to

show specific layers. Click the check

box beside a layer to make it

visible.
