COMPASS
• Untimed computer-adaptive test (CAT) college placement test developed by ACT to measure academic readiness for college-level courses. – Scores range from 1 to 99. – Items are multiple-choice.– Item difficulty adjusts to the skills student,
eliminating items that are too easy or difficult.

• (c) The results on the comprehensive statewide student assessment program in grade eleven in English/language arts and mathematics shall be used to determine whether a student has met the college- and career-readiness standards adopted pursuant to subsection (b) of this section.

All student who do not meet the ACT COMPASS benchmark as a junior must retake ACT COMPASS after or near the end of their senior ELA/mathematics course (pages 3 and 10).

4.8.a. Effective for the senior class of 2015-2016 and beyond, all public school students enrolled in grade 12 who did not meet the minimum scores(s) on COMPASS for mathematics and writing skills English as established by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and the West Virginia Council for Community and Technology College Education will retake COMPASS mathematics and/or ACT COMPASS writing skills test(s) at the end of the Transition course(s) or the approved alternate/higher level course

4.8.a.1. Effective for the senior class of 2015-2016, students in grade 12 who do not meet the placement standards for COMPASS mathematics or writing skills will be excused from retaking COMPASS upon provision of appropriate documentation of ACT or SAT scores that meet the placement standard(s) prior to the beginning of the COMPASS testing window.
