St. Elizabeth Regional Health Cancer RegistryThe St. Elizabeth Regional Health Cancer Registry is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission

on Cancer and is staffed by a certified cancer registrar. The registry maintains cancer data and follow-up on patients diagnosed and/or treated at St. Elizabeth Regional Health and several Lafayette area clinics and physician offices. This data is reported to both the Indiana State Department of Health Cancer Registry and the American College of Surgeons National Cancer Data Base.

In 2008, there were 889 analytic (class 0,1, 2 and 6) cases added to the registry. These cases were used in the statistical analysis of 2008 St. Elizabeth Regional Health Cancer Annual Report data.

Class of CaseClass 0 Diagnosed at St. Elizabeth Regional Health and all first course of treatment performed elsewhere.Class 1 Diagnosed at St. Elizabeth Regional Health and all or part of first course of treatment performed at St. Elizabeth Regional Health.Class 2 Diagnosed elsewhere and all or part of first course of treatment performed at St. Elizabeth Regional Health.Class 6 Diagnosed and all first course of treatment in physician office setting.

The St. Elizabeth Regional Health Cancer Registry currently maintains follow-up on approximately 7,279 patients. Lifetime follow-up is collected on all Class of Case 0, 1 and 2 cases to compare treatment outcomes and survival rates. The registry consistently maintains a lost-to-follow-up rate of 10 percent or less as mandated by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

The 2008 studies completed include: “2003 Breast Cancer Treatment with 5-year Survival” and “Follow-up 2003 Prostate Study 10-year Survival Comparison.” –Charla J. Dark, CTR, manager, Cancer Registry

Advocacy Events and ActivitiesSt. Elizabeth Regional Health, its employees and physicians remain

steadfast in adhering to the tradition of our Franciscan values of respect for life, fidelity to our mission, compassionate concern, joyful service and Christian stewardship. As part of our mission, we work with a variety of community organizations and agencies to provide medical services and support to those in our community.

In 2008, the St. Elizabeth Regional Health teamed with other area health providers and businesses to raise funds for the YWCA’s Women’s Cancer Program through the Ultimate Pink Party. The event raised more than $18,000.

On Oct. 8 – 9, 2008, St. Elizabeth Regional Health hosted Camp Bluebird. The two-day, one-night retreat for adult cancer survivors is an informal educational experience in a relaxed nature-filled environment. The camp is open to patients who have had cancer in the past, who have been recently diagnosed or who have ongoing cancer issues.

On June 27, 2008, St. Elizabeth Regional Health fielded several teams for Tippecanoe County’s Relay for Life. St. Elizabeth Regional Health raised more than $2,000 for the event. Several St. Elizabeth employees volunteered to assist in registering participants for the CPS-3 study.

Leisha Hill (left) and Angie Hart (right) of the Sleep Lab register people in the CPS-3 long-term cancer study; 283 people registered for the study. Leisha served as a local coordinator for the study.
