Elite Built Homes is a classic growth success story. Just five years ago, Elite

Built Homes started just 40 homes. The Kentucky-based builder then entered a

growth spurt.

In 2017, the company started 150 homes, and in 2018 they expect 175 homes to come

out of the ground. “We are now building in 10 communities,” said Geoff Scholl, Elite

Built Homes’ Director of Purchasing. “To run our operations, we have 50 employees,

and sub out much of our work. As we have grown, we have made constant strides to

modernize and streamline our operations. And that includes our drafting services”.

“In our plan library, we have ten base models. However, like any competitive home

builder today, we offer hundreds of options. When you calculate the options, options-

on-options, and the options rules, you can quickly escalate into a complicated data

management challenge to track all these options and generate lot-specific plan sets,”

Scholl said. “We recently started taking a hard look at our in-house architecture, plan

drafting processes and personnel, where we had five total people, including two

in-house and three outsiders.”

“We typically create a lot-specific plan set for every one of our starts. In 2018, that means

175 plans sets have to be created,” Scholl explained. “Of course, we work from our base plan

library, but with the options that buyers have access to, every single home is different, and

each base plan has to be modified. As the house is optioned and gets closer to breaking

ground, there is the potential for red lines, which need to be incorporated into the plan sets

that get distributed to our trades and crews.”
