WHAT IS PROBABILITY?

• Possibility of favourable events / total number of events.

• For example:

• I toss a coin and want to get Head, the probability is ½

• (because there are only two possibilities : Head and Tail).


What is highest probability?

• 1 (when there is absolute certainity).


What is the least probability?

• Zero

• (when an event is impossible).


What is the probability of getting an even number on tossing a dice? • Even numbers are: 2,4,6

• Thus there are 3 favourable possibilities, Total possibilities are 6 (1,2,3,4,5,6,)

• Thus probability is 3 / 6

• Thus answer is ½.


What is the probability of getting an odd number on tossing a dice?

• Odd numbers are 1,3,5

• Thus there are 3 favourable possibilities, Total possibilities are 6 (1,2,3,4,5,6,)
