Top Of FormSensing
To accommodate different size media, yourprinter is equipped with a sensor capable of de-tecting the top of each label or tag. Two meth-ods are used by the printer for top of formsensing: Gap Sensing and Black Line Sensing.
The gap sensing feature depends on the abilityof the Gap Sensor to “see through” the labelliner between labels. Gap sensing is standardon all printers.
An optional Black Line Sensor may also be in-stalled in your printer. The Black Line Sensor isused with special labels that have a black lineprinted on the back of the label liner betweeneach label.
For proper operation, the printer needs tomeasure the length of the labels. Also, due tomanufacturing differences in label stock, theGap Sensor may have difficulty distinguishingthe difference between labels and the liner. When this occurs, the printer Power Indicatorwill switch from GREEN to ORANGE or RED.If this condition occurs, the AutoSensefeature should be activated to adjust thesensitivity of the sensor and measure the labellength.

When theadjustment is complete, a status summary labelwill be printed and the printer will be placed inDiagnostic Dump mode. Tap the FEEDControl once to switch the printer back tonormal operation. If the indicator continues toglow ORANGE or switches to RED, refer toAppendix A for troubleshooting information.

Replacing thePrinter MemoryBackup Battery
The printer contains memory for storage of op-erating parameters, forms, graphics and softfonts. A battery prevents memory loss if theprinter power is switched off or disconnected. When the battery is exhausted, the printer willprint “LOST INTERNAL INFO”. If this hap-pens, turn off the printer power and follow thesteps below to replace the battery.
ALL INFORMATION IN THE PRINTERSMEMORY WILL BE LOST IF THE BATTERYIS REMOVED.
Step ➊ With the printer power off, open the cover andremove any labels that may be loaded.
Step ➋ Remove the four (4) screws that secure thelabel cradle and lift off.
Step ➌ Remove and dispose of the battery accordingto the manufacturer’s instructions.

Appendix CUsing The
Windows PrinterDriver
The Windows printer driver provides control ofseveral printer features when printing fromWindows software applications. These featuresare accessed through the “Settings / Printers”window on the Windows 95 Start menu.
Paper (Label) Size Before creating a label, the paper size for thecurrently loaded labels must be selected in thecontrol panel.
Setting the proper label size allows the driver toprovide accurate printing limits and margin in-formation to Windows applications.
Media ChoicePrint Speed
The print speed can be adjusted to compensatefor manufacturing differences in label stock.Selecting a slower print speed can improve theappearance of lines and text on some labelstocks. When printing large labels or labels witha lot of information near the right edge, aslower print speed will avoid pauses whileprinting caused by buffer under-run. To accessthis menu, select the Paper tab from the printerproperties menu.
Print Quality,Print Density
The print darkness or density can be changedby using the Print Quality option. If print looksfaded when printing at high speed, select ahigher darkness number for the Print Qualitysetting. If horizontal lines seem to run together, select a lower darkness number.
To access this menu, select the Device Optionstab from the printer properties menu.
Print density is also affected by print speed.Changing both Print Speed and Density maybe required to achieve the desired results.
