Network System Layout

User Requirements This is the computer network system that I have been asked to create for the Better Health Care Centre. This includes all the hardware and software components and the internet. I have included three pc’s, one for Dr. Yates then other two for the receptionists. Each computer are connected to two different printers as you can see in the diagram above. The printers are separated into two different rooms, one being in the GPs office the other being in reception. This network also includes three different routers, two of these being wireless and the other being wired. All of the routers are connected to a switch. In order to meet the last user requirement I had to add the cloud, this is so the patients who are waiting can access the internet.

Setting up the Server In order to set up the network I had to first place a server which is placed next to a wireless router

and connect using a copper straight-through cable. I then had to click on Fastethernet0 on the server and Ethernet1 on the router. By clicking on the serve I could then change the display name. I changed this one to Server1 then added the IP address.

Setting up the Wireless RouterTo set up the wireless routers first I needed to place them where they’re required, one in the reception area and the other in the Dr. Yates office. To ensure the wireless access works on both routers I made sure that all the configuration is on static rather than dynamic.

I then had to add in the IP address to make sure the computer and printers can be connected.

Setting up the Wired RouterTo set up the wires router the steps are a little different. I had to place the router and connect it to the switch using a copper straight-through cable. I had to switch off the device in order to add the icon from the list into the second port. Finally you must go onto configuration a make sure everything is switched on. The pages you must check are FastEthernet0/0, FastEthernet0/1, Serial0/0/0 and serial0/0/1.

Setting up the PC’s and IP Address’In order to set up the PC’s I first had to place them all where they’re required to go. One in the GPs office and the other two in reception. First I had to ensure the computers are switched off then scroll down to the bottom and drag the computer image out of the modem and replace it with Linksys-WMP300N (which is second on the list). This is to make it wireless. Next I had to turn the device back on, otherwise it won’t work. Then click configuration. Doing this will allow you to chance the display name, I changed this to Helen PC. I then had to change the Gateway/DNS from DHCP to static. After doing this I then clicked desktop which will open up a blue screen. Click IP configuration and change to static. Then I had to type in the IP address (192.168.0.1) and click the tap key on the keyboard to give me the Subnet Mask (255.255.255.0). The process was repeated three times to connect each computer.

Setting up the PrintersTo set up the printer I had to place it where it needed to go, on in the receptionist and the other in the GP’s office. First thing that needs to be done in turning off the printer. Then move the computer icon and replace it with LINKSYS-WRT300N. Next I had to change the display name, to do this I had to click on configuration then change it. I changed the name to Wireless Printer 1. These steps are then repeated to set up the second printer in the doctors office.

Setting up the Switch

To set up the switch it’s pretty straight forwards. I had place it somewhere all three routers could be connected to it. I then connected them all using Copper Straight-Through cables. I then had to click the switch and edit the display name.

Setting up the Cloud

To set up the cloud what I had to do is place it next to the wires router and turn on all the ports. To connect it to the wired router it must be connect with Serial DCE which is an Ethernet cable.

Access Rights and Adding FilesTo set up the access rights I had to click on the server and go to configuration. After doing this I had to click FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and delete all the files that are already on there. Next I had to add usernames and passwords for each person. To submit these files I had to click the plus. The doctor is able to write, read, delete, rename and list. Whereas the receptionist can write, read, rename and list. The guest

can only list.

EmailsIn order to set up the emails I had to go onto the server and click configuration and then email. I then had to change the domain name to ‘outlook.com’. Next I had to make usernames and passwords for each person in the system and then add.

Fault in the systemThere were three things that are faulty in the system, these being the power test and the ping test. To fix the ping test I had to make sure when adding the IP Address into command prompt I add the IP of a different computer. To fix the power test I have to make sure all devices are turned on. Another error was that the PCs and external devices were connected to the wrong wireless routers, this was pretty easy to sort out. I had to reconnect the devices.

Health and SafetyI have confirmed that all hardware is turned off at the end of the day to ensure the safety of everyone this is because devices can overheat which is a fire hazard and prevent any issues that could occur.

Test To start with the ping test proven to be unsuccessful, this was because I had inputted the wrong IP Address. In order for this test to work I had to input a different IP Address to a different computer otherwise it will fail.

To do the ping test I had to click on one of the computers and go to desktop. The desktop is a blue screen with multiple options, I then clicked on command prompt and a black screen comes up. Next I typed ‘ping 192.168.0.1’ and it will come up with successful if it’s done right. If not it will come up with requested time out.

Internet Control Message ProtocolTo test the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) I had to change it from real time to simulation. Then Edit the filters and ensure that ONLY ICMP is checked. After doing this I had to send a message from Helens computer to Samaras. This is to test and to make sure the computers can send and receive messages. This test turned out successful so I now know the network system is working efficiently. Because it takes a long time I clicked Auto Centre/Play to speed up the process.

The network system works efficiently although I would recommend adding a phone.

The network system is east to operate and to understand. This is important for the people who don’t have an understanding on technology.

I have check with the brief and the network system does in fact meet the original and user requirements.

Performance: Do you think this network system is fast enough to be usable?

Yes, I believe the system is fast enough for the Better Health Care Centre. Considering how low the budget was that was given the network is highly reliably and fast to use.

Further ImprovementBased on Dade’s feedback I have made a couple of improvements to the system that I think would be high beneficial. The first improvement is three telephones, one each for the receptionists as they need to take and make calls and the other being in the doctor’s office so he can call reception when he’s ready for his next appointment.

Further AdditionsThe first improvement I have installed is a television in the waiting area. This is to sooth the nerves of patients that may be anxious or nervous and to occupy young children so they don’t misbehave while waiting. The second improvement is three telephones, one each for the receptionists as they need to take and make calls and the other being in the doctor’s office so he can call reception when he’s ready for his next appointment. I have also added in an extra printer to avoid any mishaps or confrontations

between Helen and Samara. The third addition is that I’ve gave the Doctor a laptop rather than a PC this is because he needs all his document to be portable so he can access them at home in case of night time emergency’s.
