User perspectives on rankings/ U-Multirank Karina Ufert European Students Union, Chairperson Rankings and the Visibility of Quality Outcomes in the EHEA Dublin, Ireland 30+ years of ESU: Established in National unions in 38 countries (EHEA) with a fixed seat around the table in all Bologna-gatherings and EU stakeholder meetings Official partner to the Council of Europe, UNESCO, OECD, Education International and other for all High quality Higher Education student-centred with student participation with academic freedom in a society where education is both a public good and a public responsibility an opportunity to be mobile ESUs policy on rankings ESU strongly opposes traditional rankings Using a list of mainly quantitative indicators to develop rankings and classification does not reflect the quality of an HEI Rankings put pressure on HEIs to perform in a reputation race chasing criteria instead of focusing on their broader mission, and thereby overlooking quality However, information is king Students require truly relevant information for their study choices! Future for student centered transparency tools? Group exercise: Please divide in 3 groups to discuss: Group A: Purpose of multidimensional transparency tools from students perspective Group B: Criteria and indicators for the student-friendly transparency tools Group C: Opportunities and threats of implementing multidimensional transparency tools 20 min discussion in the groups and reporting back (please assign a rapporteur) Thank you!
