1. INTORDUCTION: SAFETY FIRST!1.1. SAFETY MESSAGES
This manual contains safety messages. They point out potential hazards that could hurt you or others around you as well as damage the equipment in use. These messages should therefore be read carefully and understood. They are highlighted by the safety alert symbol as shown on the left: The potential hazards are explained as to what could happen and how to avoid or reduce the chance for injury or damage.
Important information has been highlighted as well. To point out this information, a light bulb icon is used. It brings topics to your attention that could, for example, facilitate maintenance or to clarify when it is advisable to consult your distributor/supplier.
1.2. GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
The Resqtec rescue equipment is designed to provide safe operation. All users should read and be thoroughly familiar with the operatinginstructions and safety precautions stated in this manual. Operator safety depends on users being properly trained by the Authority havingjurisdiction and using the product for its intended purposes only. The following safety precautions must be observed at all times:
UNTRAINED USE OF RESQTEC EQUIPMENT AND ITS ACCESSORIES MAY RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY HARMFUL SITUATIONS. DO NOT ATTEMPT!
•ResqtecrescueequipmentmustonlybeoperatedbypeopleauthorizedandqualifiedbytheAuthorityhavingjurisdiction. • Be aware that this is not an all-encompassing training manual. This manual is meant as a reference-guide for working with this specificpieceofequipment,andtheusershouldalreadybetrainedinandqualifiedforusingrescueequipment. • Suitable protective equipment must be worn as directed by the Authority having jurisdiction. At a minimum, this should include gloves, helmet, eye protection and body protection — such as turnout gear.
• Prior to use, inspect all components for any signs of damage or fraying. Do not use damaged equipment. • Stay alert. Do not operate the system when tired. • Use only Resqtec authorized service parts. • This equipment should only be used with accessories approved by Resqtec. Use of unauthorized accessories can result in unpredictable and unreliable product operation and is therefore prohibited.

1.3. SAFETY INFORMATION
Before using the equipment and its related products and accessories, conduct an overall size-up of the intended use and safeguard against potential hazards before installing the product. Read and understand this manual before using the equipment.
The WARNING and SAFETY labels on the product alert the user to special hazards inherent with its use. Should they become damaged or unreadable, contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement.
BEFORE INSTALLING THE PRODUCT, BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
• Make sure no one on site is in danger or might get, when using Resqtec equipment. Be aware of your surroundings, the situation you and the people around you are in, and what the consequences of the use of the Resqtec system are. • When in use hold the product by the handles. • NEVER, when in use, hold the product by any of its moving parts. Doing so can result in serious injury. • When using Resqtec cutters and/or spreaders, always ensure that the object is stable or stabilized by proper cribbing and/or shoring methods. • The EDD Series and related products are serviceable only by the Factory or an authorized Resqtec service technician. • The EDD Series should only be connected to a Resqtec Battery Pack. Never attach an EDD product directly to any other power source. Connection to an unauthorized power source will result in uncontrolled operation of the product and accessories and create risk of serious personal injury and/or damage to property and/or equipment. • Prior to making electrical connections, make sure all connectors are all clean and free from dirt and debris. •Performaninitialtestofthesystembybrieflycarryingouttheopeningandclosingactionsasdescribedinchapter4.3. •ChargeBatteryPackspriortofirstuse.NewBatteryPacksmayhavebeenstoredorintransitforextendedperiodsoftimeand/orat temperatures that reduced the battery’s state-of-charge due to self-discharging. Charge new Battery Packs overnight, regardless of their indicator readings.

Read all the instructions before using the product to assure safe and optimal use of the product. These instructions contain aspects relevant to safe and optimal use of the product.

2.2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
TheEDDSerieshasbeendesignedandengineeredtoassistfirefighters,USAR-teamsandotherrescueworkerswiththevariousrescueapplicationstheyencounter.Weareconfidentthatthedesignofthisproductwillenablethoseworkingintheseenvironmentstonotonlynegotiate the obstacles they encounter, but to perform their work more safely.
EDD products are integrated tools, driven by an internal electrical motor. EDD-technology products operate without using hydraulics. The 44V electrical motor directly drives a screw piston, which in turn drives the tool. Further information regarding your system can be found in the “Material Safety Data Sheet” or “MSDS” which came with your product.

When receiving your equipment check for any sign of damage to the box, and report it to your distributor/supplier as damage could have occurred during shipping. Unpack in upright position and check the product for damage. To make sure the product conforms to your specifications,checktheproductdetailsontheproductlabel.
CHECK THE EQUIPMENT FOR EXTERNAL DAMAGE. NOTIFY YOUR DISTRIBUTOR/SUPPLIER IMMEDIATELY IF ANY DAMAGE IS FOUND. DO NOT USE DAMAGED EQUIPMENT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!
In general we distinguish a couple of different types of operations:• Connecting the Resqtec Battery Pack • Disconnecting the Resqtec Battery Pack • Charging the Resqtec Battery Pack • Battery Pack: testing, on & off• Operating the product
4.2. PREPARATION BEFORE USE
• Check the arms, piston and/or blades of the tool. Do not use if they exhibit major damage and/or do not function as intended. • See chapter 6 for further information.
• Check the operation of the dead-man’s valve. It should return to its neutral position when released. • See chapter 6 for further information.
•Checkthecarryinghandle(s).Itmustbefirmlyfixed. • See chapter 6 for further information.
• Make sure the Battery Pack connector, the charger and system related cables are all dust free and dry. • See chapter 6 for further information.
•Performaninitialtestofthesystembybrieflycarryingoutthe opening and closing actions as described in chapter 4.3. • See chapter 6 for further information.

The product is operated by the dead-man’s control handle:• Rotating the control handle leftward will make the blades or arms open up or extend the piston.• Rotating the control handle rightward will make the blades or arms close or retract the piston. To keep opening or closing the blades or arms, extending or retracting the piston keep the control handle rotated. Adjust the speed by rotating more or less.
DO NOT TIGHTLY SQUEEZE THE TIPS OF THE SPREADING JAWS TOGETHER.
By releasing the control handle the dead-man’s control will make the control handle return to neutral position. The blades, arms or piston cannot be moved by external forces.

4.4.1 TESTING

4.4.2. ON/OFF

4.4. BATTERY PACK: TESTING, ON & OFF
Test the Battery Pack by pressing the ‘T’ button. The battery status indicator will indicate the battery’s energy level.
The LED will automatically turn off after 2 seconds.
The LED will not automatically turn off if the battery is almost empty. Itwillkeepflashing.

If the battery is empty, press the test button again to reset the battery status indicator.
If the energy level gets too low during operation, an internal control system allows you to open the tool. Open the tool and change to another Battery Pack.
DO NOT CONTINUE OPERATING THE TOOL IF THE ENERGY LEVEL REACHES LOW LEVELS.

4.6. EMPTY BATTERY PACK 1
IF THE TEST BUTTON IS NOT PUSHED BEFORE THE BATTERY PACK IS CHARGED THE BATTERY PACK WILL NOT CHARGE. ALWAYS PUSH THE TEST BUTTON BEFORE CHARGING WHEN THE BATTERY PACK IS EMPTY.
4.5. LOW ENERGY LEVEL BATTERY PACK 1
Theenergylevelisbelow40%ifthetwolowerindicatorsarecontinuouslyflashing.
The energy level is below 20% when one indicator is continuously flashing.

4.7. CHARGING THE BATTERY PACK
RECHARGE BATTERY PACKS IMMEDIATELY AFTER EACH USE.
IF NOT PLUGGED IN THE CHARGER, RECHARGE AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 2 MONTHS TO AVOID REDUCED BATTERY CAPACITY. CHARGE THE BATTERY PACKS USING ONLY (A) RESQTEC CHARGER(S).
To keep the battery at optimum charge level and for an optimum lifespan, keep the battery in the charger for trickle charging. This applies to the Battery Pack 1 and Battery Pack 10.
Connect the male connector end of the charger to the female connector end of the charger adapter.
Connect the other female end of the charger adapter to the Battery Pack’s male connector end.
The battery status indicator will indicate the battery’s energy level.
Make sure the Battery Pack is turned off before connecting, otherwise the battery status indicator will not indicate the battery’s energy level.
TheLEDindicatorswillbeflashing(ascending)whenthebatteryischarging.
Connect the charger’s power plug to a power socket (110 -240 V).

Always fully charge the Battery Pack 1 for optimal use.
Whenthebatteryisfull,theLEDindicatorswillflashbriefly(ascending)every10seconds.
The Battery Pack 1 is trickle charged. When the battery remains plugged in,theLEDindicatorwillbrieflyflash(ascending)every10seconds.
Charging up to 90% takes approximately 1 hour. Fully charging a Battery Pack 1 takes approximately 2 hours.
Disconnect the charger from the power socket when the battery is fully charged.
The Battery Pack 1 is trickle charged. When the battery remains plugged in,theLED’swillbrieflyflashevery10seconds.

4.8. CONNECTING THE BATTERY PACK
Align the Battery Pack battery slider with the connector rail.

Once aligned, push to connect in one swift motion.
Asignificantclickwillindicateaproperconnectionbetweenthe Battery Pack and the tool.

4.9. DISCONNECTING THE RESQTEC BATTERY PACK
Push the disconnecting knob and pull the Battery Pack from its socket.
ALWAYS PUSH THE DISCONNECTING KNOB AWAY FROM THE BATTERY PACK! DO NOT PUSH IN THE DIRECTION OF THE BATTERY PACK. THIS MIGHT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TOOL.
Make sure the control handle of the tool is not engaged when disconnecting (neutral position).
Turning off the Battery Pack when disconnecting is advisable, but not obliged.

Before storing the equipment it is recommended to open or close the blades to the point where only the tips touch each other, in case of spreaders to the point where the spreader arms are 5 cm/4” apart, or in case of rams to retract fully, and thenbrieflyextendthepiston.Foryourownconvenience,donotstorethearms,pistonorbladesinfullyopen/extended or closed/retracted position.
4.10. OPERATING THE PRODUCT
Connect a Battery Pack 1 or 10 to the tool.
Rotate the control handle leftwards to open the arms or blades, or to extend the piston.
Turn on the Battery Pack.
If uncertain, test the Battery Pack’s battery capacity before connecting.
Rotate the control handle rightwards to close the arms or blades or to retract the piston.

Generally speaking it is most important is to keep your equipment clean. Clean equipment will not wear down as fast; hence a longer service life can be achieved.
WEAR PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT DURING MAINTENANCE. ENSURE THAT WASTE IS COLLECTED AND DISPOSED OF IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER.
6. MAINTENANCE & STORAGE6.1. MAINTENANCE AFTER USE
ACTION EXPLANATION ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. Check the product for any damage.
• Visually check for damage.
• Check the arms, blades or piston for excessive wear.
If structural damage to the product is discovered, contact your Resqtec distributor/supplier.
2. Check the dead-man’s handle.• Check whether it automatically returns to its neutral position after the handle is turned and released.
If the dead-man’s handle is not functioning properly, contact your Resqtec distributor/supplier.
3. Check the Battery Packs(1 and/or 10).
• Visually check the connector for damage.
• If applicable: visually check the Battery Pack 10’s power cable for damage.
If structural damage to the product is discovered, contact your Resqtec distributor/supplier.
4. Clean and dry the product before storage (separately from the Battery Pack).
• Preferably use dry, clean paper cloth.
• Mild soapy water can be used on metal parts if necessary.
• Do not use water near the connector.
Disconnect Battery Pack before cleaning.
Do NOT use any oil.
Dry thoroughly after using water.
Do NOT use water near the connector.
5. Charge the Battery Packs. • See chapter 4.7 for detailed information. Always charge Battery Packs after usage.

6. Check the Battery Pack connector for dirt. Clean if necessary. • Use dry, paper cloth. Do NOT use any oil or water.

If the connector is not functioning properly, contact your Resqtec distributor/supplier.

After heavy use, CRC SP 400 can be used to ensure spreader jaws, ram jaws or cutter blades are protected against corrosion.
• Only apply on the spreader jaws, ram jaws or cutter blades.
• Spray and clean with dry paper cloth.
• Clean any other parts that may have attracted some coating in the process.
Read instructions carefully before using CRC SP 400.
ATTENTION! IF YOU DECIDE THE SPREADER JAWS, RAM JAWS OR CUTTER BLADES NEED TO BE COATED FOR ANTI-CORROSION PURPOSES, ONLY USE CRC SP 400. OTHER PRODUCTS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE NEGATIVE EFFECTS ON THE LUBRICANT USED IN YOUR TOOL. OTHER PRODUCTS ALSO DO NOT HAVE THE HIGH PROTECTION GRADE THAT CRC SP 400 PROVIDES.

It is advisable to carry out regular maintenance; depending on the use at least every 3 months or 25 operating hours.
When carrying out regular maintenance one should, in addition to the steps described in chapter 6.1, pay extra attention to the following:
6.2.1 GENERAL MAINTENANCE

1. Check the spreader arms, ram jaws and cutter blades for major damage.
• Check for cracks.
• Check for damage to the central bolt.
Do not use the product if it exhibits major damage.

4. Check for Battery Pack connection and sliding.
• Apply a little amount of Silicone spray at the aluminum sliding parts. Connect and disconnect the Battery Pack at least 3 times.

Many years of safe use is guaranteed if the product is properly cared for and maintained. To this end the product must be inspected at least once a year. This must be carried out by a service technician trained by Resqtec who possesses the necessary tools and testing equipment.
It is also possible for you, the user, to carry out maintenance yourself. In the context of your own safety and the product liability it is necessary thatappropriatetrainingshouldbeundertakenfirst.Yourdistributor/suppliercanadviseyouonthisand/orattendtotheannualmaintenanceona contract basis, if desired.
STRUCTURALLY DAMAGED AND/OR BROKEN EQUIPMENT MUST NEVER BE USED DURING RESCUE OPERATIONS. THIS MAY RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY HARMFUL SITUATIONS. DO NOT ATTEMPT!
If structural damage and/or broken equipment or parts are discovered, immediately contact your distributor/supplier or the manufacturer.
DO NOT REPAIR ANY BROKEN EQUIPMENT AND/OR PARTS. ALWAYS CONTACT YOUR DISTRIBUTOR/SUPPLIER OR THE MANUFACTURER.
Repairing equipment and/or parts causes your warranty to expire. Always contact your distributor/supplier when broken parts and/or equipment arediscovered.Brokenequipmentand/orpartscanthenbesenttocertifiedservicecenters.
6.4. RECOMMENDED STORAGE
The following storage recommendations count:• Do not store the spreader jaws, ram piston and/or cutter blades completely opened or closed, otherwise excessive strain might remain on the tool.• If needed, apply an anti-corrosion layer on the spreader jaws, ram jaws and/or cutter blades as described in chapter 6.1 • Store out of direct sunlight• Store the equipment in a dry, well-ventilated area:
6.5. DECOMISSIONING & RECYCLING
The various parts can be re-used at the end of their service life. Refer to the MSDS that was supplied with your product and/or follow local regulations on disposal.
The product consists of steel, aluminum, neoprene (seals) and plastic. The product does not contain any pressurized components. Consult your distributor/supplier for further information on recycling.
BATTERY PACKS MUST BE RETURNED TO RESQTEC AT THE END OF THE SERVICE LIFE. RESQTEC WILL PROPERLY RECYCLE THE BATTERY PACKS AND THEIR COMPONENTS.

BEFORE USING RESQTEC EQUIPMENT, BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
• Resqtec equipment is designed for rescue/salvage operations only and may not be used for industrial purposes.• The Resqtec EDD products should only be connected to a Resqtec Battery Pack. Never attach the products directly to any other power source. Connection to an unauthorized power source will result in uncontrolled operation of the power head and attachments and create risk of serious personal injury and/or damage to property and/or equipment.• Prior to making electrical connections, make sure all connectors are all clean and free from dirt and debris.•Performaninitialtestofthesystembybrieflycarryingouttheopeningandclosingactionsasdescribedinchapter4.3.•ChargeBatteryPackspriortofirstuse.NewBatteryPacksmayhavebeenstoredorintransitforextendedperiodsoftimeand/orat temperatures that reduced the battery’s state-of-charge due to self-discharging. Charge new Battery Packs overnight, regardless of their indicator readings. • Charge every Battery Pack 1 battery at the moment of delivery after purchasing or return to your facility.•Donottrytoperformtasksthatexceedthespecificationsoftheparticularproduct.Thespecificationsclearlydefinetheproductcapabilities. Use a more powerful product from the Resqtec series if the situation occurs.•ContinuedloadingoftheEDDproductsinthesamedirectionafterithasautomaticallyshutoff,withoutfirstrelievingtheload,canresultin over-stressing and breakage of different components, which may cause serious personal injury and/or damage to property and/or equipment.
7.2. OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
WHEN WORKING IN EXTREME TEMPERATURES, MIND THE FOLLOWING:
• When working in hot temperatures, make sure to store the Battery Packs in the shade.• When working in cold temperatures, make sure to store the Battery Packs in preferably room temperature conditions.• Always charge the Battery Packs in room temperature conditions:
7.3. STALL PROCEDURE
When the tool’s maximum force is reached, it will stall. The tool will stall for 2 seconds, after which it will stop automatically.
WHEN THE TOOL STALLS AND STOPS, DO NOT CONTINUE OPERATING THE TOOL IN THAT DIRECTION! THIS MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE TOOL. STOP OPERATING AND REPOSITION OR FIND A DIFFERENT SOLUTION.
If the tool stalls while remains stuck in or between materials, follow the following steps:

MISUSE OF RESQTEC EQUIPMENT IN THIS WAY MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE SYSTEM AND/OR PROPERTY.
The warranty will void if these restrictions are disregarded.
7.5. TWISTING OF BLADES
Straight blades have a tendency to twist when cutting in certain structures. Whilst cutting, mind the following:
DURING CUTTING, STOP WHENEVER YOU NOTICE THAT BLADES ARE TWISTING. WHEN TWISTING, THE OPENING EXCEEDS 8MM / 5/16” (MEASURED AT THE TIP). THIS INCUBATES A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION FOR YOU AND YOUR SURROUNDINGS.
If blades start to twist, make sure to open up the blades again and make a different cut.

8. TROUBLESHOOTING
If you encounter any problems whilst using the product, please advise the following table:
IF YOU CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED, OR IF THE PROVIDED SOLUTION DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, STOP USING THE PRODUCT IMMEDIATELY AND CONTACT A CERTIFIED DISTRIBUTOR/SUPPLIER OR ONE OF THE RESQTEC OFFICES.
Symptom Solution
The tool stalled and stopped operating.
- The safety system that prevents overloading the tool is activated. See chapter 7.3 for detailed information.
- The energy level is low. Follow procedure as described in chapter 4.4 and charge the empty Battery Pack.
The Battery Pack battery LEDs and/or status indicator do(es) not turn on.
- The Battery Pack energy level is empty. Charge the Battery Pack. See chapter 4.7 for detailed information.
- The Battery Pack is not activated yet. Contact your Resqtec distributor/supplier.
The Battery Pack battery LEDs and/or status indicator keep(s) flashingcontinuously.
- The energy level is low. Follow procedure as described in chapter 4.4 and charge the empty Battery Pack.
