How do you like your heatWith your Spark you can play with the heat spreader to create different heatzones and cooking styles

The Heat

Use the heat spreader accessory (included) to get the largest direct heat cooking area and a more gradual differential between the center and edges of the grill This is the setting yoursquoll probably use most often

Remove the heat spreader to create a hot zone directly over the charcoal and cooler indirect zones along the sides of the grill

02Starting and Operating Your Spark

Add heat spreader for an even temperature across the gratesIts up to you For more info on how to use your heat spreaders see The Heat Section

Place an unwrapped Briq in the panMake sure to put the notched corner of the Briq in the lower right corner of the Briq pan so the Briq sits flat Use the Briq immediately after unwrapping If this is your first grill dont forget to use the included Seasoning Briq

02Plug in your Spark Open the drawer at the front of the grill

Close the drawer firmlyThe drawer will be flush with the kettle

With the lid open turn the ignition switch all the way to the right to fire up your grillAn electric ceramic ignitor will light the Briq

05 06After 2 seconds turn the starter back to the centerYoursquoll see a good amount of smoke as the ignition layer does its thing Close the lid once the grill is lit Be patient this can take up to 45 seconds

Turn the dial to set your target temperatureHalo lighting around dial will glow orange

07The halo has 5 visual states which indicate the grills status

08Pulsing OrangeThe grill is igniting

Solid BlueThe grill is getting cooler

Solid OrangeThe grill is heating up

Solid WhiteThe grill is at target temperature

Solid PurpleThe grill is in fan control mode

The white line shows your target temperature The orange line shows your current grill temperature

When yoursquore done cooking turn the starter all the way to the left ldquooffrdquo positionWe recommend leaving your grill plugged in for a few hours after cooking The fans will continue running to cool the grill down The charcoal will continue to burn out once the grill is off

03Using temperature probes (optional)

AccurateGrilling

Set up your food probes (optional)Your probes connect to the app via Bluetooth You can set a target temperature for your food in the app and wersquoll notify you when your food is perfectly cooked Unpack your probes and remove the black rubber safety tips

Plug the colored end of the probes into your grillYoursquoll see the ports on the right side of the grill kettle

Insert the pointed metal end of the probe into your foodTo get the most accurate reading the tip of the probe should sit right in the center of your food and should not make contact with the grates

Now that the probes are connected itrsquos time to get grillingGo to the cook tab on the app and add the probes then set your target temperature

04Using Fan Control Mode

TakeControl

Your Spark defaults to temperature control mode ndash you set a desired temperature and the grill holds it

If youd like to grill with the lid open grill without the heat spreader or if you just want to grill by feel you can use Fan Control Mode which allows you to control the fans yourself

Cooking in Fan Control Mode

To enter Fan Control Mode ignite the grill normally and allow the Briq to heat up for ten minutes Fan control mode will be disabled during this time to allow the briq to properly light

Turn the ignition ring to the the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise The halo will turn purple to indicate that youre in Fan Control Mode Return the ignition ring to the center

To go back to Default Temperature Control Mode follow step 02 again Turn the ignition ring to the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise until the halo is no longer purple Return the ignition ring to the center

Turning the dial up from 600ndashMAX will enable and speed up the stoking fan which heats up the grill Turning the dial down from 600ndash200F will enable and speed up the cooling fan which cools down the grill

The orange tick mark shows the actual temperature of the grill

05Cleaning Your Spark

Keep It Clean

Once the grill is off and cooled down completely open the drawer

Clean cool grates and heat spreader with a nylon brushDO NOT use chemical cleaners with bleach or steel wool

04Dump the cold ash in a charcoal-safe bin with a sealable lidCAUTION Never dispose of ash in a trash receptacle

Remove the Briq panBe careful in case the Briq pan is still hot

Suggested Maintenance

AS NEEDED

Wash the kettle with a damp rag and store the cutting board inside

Re-season the cooking grates

Use a rag and cooking oil to wipe an additional coating of oil on the topside of the grates when the grill is above 400F This helps maintain a non-stick coating

AFTER 5 USES

Check and clean ignitor if it is dirty

Be aware of any loose articles of clothing jewelry and long hair while grilling

Keep face clear of grill grates when igniting or heating

When opening and closing the lid use kettle handle only Keep fingers free and clear of closing surfaces

Never use water to extinguish flames on the grill If flames occur leave the lid open until the flames die down

Never leave the grill unattended in the presence of children and pets

Never leave the grill unattended with the lid open in high-wind conditions

Do not touch the kettle lid or drawer when the grill is on

Always grill outside and never in an enclosed location

Position your Spark grill on a flat and stable surface 10 feet away from combustibles awnings siding tree branches or other obstructions

Only use the cart handles when moving the grill and never move the grill when it is hot

Plug the grill into an appropriate three-prong outlet with GFCI protection

If an extension cord is needed make sure that it is rated for outdoor use and has a properly grounded three-prong style plug

Ensure cord is free ofwalking paths

BRIQ STORAGE +OTHER

Do not store Briqs near or underneath the grill

Keep your Briqs in theirpackaging until you are ready to use them

Store Briqs in a cool and dry location away from heat-producing appliances and combustible materials

Always be prepared to put out a fire

Do not use any tools or utensils not specified for grilling

To avoid flare-ups and extend the life of your grill keep all surfaces of the grill clean of excess grease and residue

POST GRILL

Turn off your grill and close the lid when grilling is complete

Leave your grill plugged in It will help protect the internal electronics and cool your Briq down faster

Make sure Briqs are completelycool before disposing in a charcoal-safe bin

Donrsquot use water to cool the Briqs - it makes a mess

Make sure your Spark is off when not in use

Dont put the hot fuel pan in snow (thermal shock isnt cool)

The charcoal will remain burning after the grill has been turned off Use caution around the grill for several hours

04Using Fan Control Mode

Your Spark defaults to temperature control mode ndash you set a desired temperature and the grill holds it

If youd like to grill with the lid open grill without the heat spreader or if you just want to grill by feel you can use Fan Control Mode which allows you to control the fans yourself

Cooking in Fan Control Mode

To enter Fan Control Mode ignite the grill normally and allow the Briq to heat up for ten minutes Fan control mode will be disabled during this time to allow the briq to properly light

Turn the ignition ring to the the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise The halo will turn purple to indicate that youre in Fan Control Mode Return the ignition ring to the center

To go back to Default Temperature Control Mode follow step 02 again Turn the ignition ring to the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise until the halo is no longer purple Return the ignition ring to the center

02Starting and Operating Your Spark

Add heat spreader for an even temperature across the gratesIts up to you For more info on how to use your heat spreaders see The Heat Section

Place an unwrapped Briq in the panMake sure to put the notched corner of the Briq in the lower right corner of the Briq pan so the Briq sits flat Use the Briq immediately after unwrapping If this is your first grill dont forget to use the included Seasoning Briq

02Plug in your Spark Open the drawer at the front of the grill

Close the drawer firmlyThe drawer will be flush with the kettle

With the lid open turn the ignition switch all the way to the right to fire up your grillAn electric ceramic ignitor will light the Briq

05 06After 2 seconds turn the starter back to the centerYoursquoll see a good amount of smoke as the ignition layer does its thing Close the lid once the grill is lit Be patient this can take up to 45 seconds

02Starting and Operating Your Spark

Add heat spreader for an even temperature across the gratesIts up to you For more info on how to use your heat spreaders see The Heat Section

Place an unwrapped Briq in the panMake sure to put the notched corner of the Briq in the lower right corner of the Briq pan so the Briq sits flat Use the Briq immediately after unwrapping If this is your first grill dont forget to use the included Seasoning Briq

02Plug in your Spark Open the drawer at the front of the grill

Close the drawer firmlyThe drawer will be flush with the kettle

With the lid open turn the ignition switch all the way to the right to fire up your grillAn electric ceramic ignitor will light the Briq

05 06After 2 seconds turn the starter back to the centerYoursquoll see a good amount of smoke as the ignition layer does its thing Close the lid once the grill is lit Be patient this can take up to 45 seconds

Turn the dial to set your target temperatureHalo lighting around dial will glow orange

07The halo has 5 visual states which indicate the grills status

Solid BlueThe grill is getting cooler

03Using temperature probes (optional)

Set up your food probes (optional)Your probes connect to the app via Bluetooth You can set a target temperature for your food in the app and wersquoll notify you when your food is perfectly cooked Unpack your probes and remove the black rubber safety tips

Plug the colored end of the probes into your grillYoursquoll see the ports on the right side of the grill kettle

Insert the pointed metal end of the probe into your foodTo get the most accurate reading the tip of the probe should sit right in the center of your food and should not make contact with the grates

Now that the probes are connected itrsquos time to get grillingGo to the cook tab on the app and add the probes then set your target temperature

04Using Fan Control Mode

TakeControl

Your Spark defaults to temperature control mode ndash you set a desired temperature and the grill holds it

If youd like to grill with the lid open grill without the heat spreader or if you just want to grill by feel you can use Fan Control Mode which allows you to control the fans yourself

Cooking in Fan Control Mode

To enter Fan Control Mode ignite the grill normally and allow the Briq to heat up for ten minutes Fan control mode will be disabled during this time to allow the briq to properly light

Turn the ignition ring to the the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise The halo will turn purple to indicate that youre in Fan Control Mode Return the ignition ring to the center

To go back to Default Temperature Control Mode follow step 02 again Turn the ignition ring to the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise until the halo is no longer purple Return the ignition ring to the center

Turning the dial up from 600ndashMAX will enable and speed up the stoking fan which heats up the grill Turning the dial down from 600ndash200F will enable and speed up the cooling fan which cools down the grill

The orange tick mark shows the actual temperature of the grill

05Cleaning Your Spark

Keep It Clean

Once the grill is off and cooled down completely open the drawer

Clean cool grates and heat spreader with a nylon brushDO NOT use chemical cleaners with bleach or steel wool

04Dump the cold ash in a charcoal-safe bin with a sealable lidCAUTION Never dispose of ash in a trash receptacle

Wash the kettle with a damp rag and store the cutting board inside

Re-season the cooking grates

Use a rag and cooking oil to wipe an additional coating of oil on the topside of the grates when the grill is above 400F This helps maintain a non-stick coating

Place an unwrapped Briq in the panMake sure to put the notched corner of the Briq in the lower right corner of the Briq pan so the Briq sits flat Use the Briq immediately after unwrapping If this is your first grill dont forget to use the included Seasoning Briq

Close the drawer firmlyThe drawer will be flush with the kettle

With the lid open turn the ignition switch all the way to the right to fire up your grillAn electric ceramic ignitor will light the Briq

Plug the colored end of the probes into your grillYoursquoll see the ports on the right side of the grill kettle

Insert the pointed metal end of the probe into your foodTo get the most accurate reading the tip of the probe should sit right in the center of your food and should not make contact with the grates

Now that the probes are connected itrsquos time to get grillingGo to the cook tab on the app and add the probes then set your target temperature

04Using Fan Control Mode

Your Spark defaults to temperature control mode ndash you set a desired temperature and the grill holds it

If youd like to grill with the lid open grill without the heat spreader or if you just want to grill by feel you can use Fan Control Mode which allows you to control the fans yourself

Cooking in Fan Control Mode

To enter Fan Control Mode ignite the grill normally and allow the Briq to heat up for ten minutes Fan control mode will be disabled during this time to allow the briq to properly light

Turn the ignition ring to the the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise The halo will turn purple to indicate that youre in Fan Control Mode Return the ignition ring to the center

Place an unwrapped Briq in the panMake sure to put the notched corner of the Briq in the lower right corner of the Briq pan so the Briq sits flat Use the Briq immediately after unwrapping If this is your first grill dont forget to use the included Seasoning Briq

Close the drawer firmlyThe drawer will be flush with the kettle

With the lid open turn the ignition switch all the way to the right to fire up your grillAn electric ceramic ignitor will light the Briq

Insert the pointed metal end of the probe into your foodTo get the most accurate reading the tip of the probe should sit right in the center of your food and should not make contact with the grates

04Using Fan Control Mode

Your Spark defaults to temperature control mode ndash you set a desired temperature and the grill holds it

If youd like to grill with the lid open grill without the heat spreader or if you just want to grill by feel you can use Fan Control Mode which allows you to control the fans yourself

Cooking in Fan Control Mode

To enter Fan Control Mode ignite the grill normally and allow the Briq to heat up for ten minutes Fan control mode will be disabled during this time to allow the briq to properly light

Turn the ignition ring to the the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise The halo will turn purple to indicate that youre in Fan Control Mode Return the ignition ring to the center

Leave your grill plugged in It will help protect the internal electronics and cool your Briq down faster

Make sure Briqs are completelycool before disposing in a charcoal-safe bin

Donrsquot use water to cool the Briqs - it makes a mess

Make sure your Spark is off when not in use

Dont put the hot fuel pan in snow (thermal shock isnt cool)

The charcoal will remain burning after the grill has been turned off Use caution around the grill for several hours

Set up your food probes (optional)Your probes connect to the app via Bluetooth You can set a target temperature for your food in the app and wersquoll notify you when your food is perfectly cooked Unpack your probes and remove the black rubber safety tips

Plug the colored end of the probes into your grillYoursquoll see the ports on the right side of the grill kettle

Insert the pointed metal end of the probe into your foodTo get the most accurate reading the tip of the probe should sit right in the center of your food and should not make contact with the grates

Now that the probes are connected itrsquos time to get grillingGo to the cook tab on the app and add the probes then set your target temperature

04Using Fan Control Mode

TakeControl

Your Spark defaults to temperature control mode ndash you set a desired temperature and the grill holds it

If youd like to grill with the lid open grill without the heat spreader or if you just want to grill by feel you can use Fan Control Mode which allows you to control the fans yourself

Cooking in Fan Control Mode

To enter Fan Control Mode ignite the grill normally and allow the Briq to heat up for ten minutes Fan control mode will be disabled during this time to allow the briq to properly light

Turn the ignition ring to the the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise The halo will turn purple to indicate that youre in Fan Control Mode Return the ignition ring to the center

To go back to Default Temperature Control Mode follow step 02 again Turn the ignition ring to the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise until the halo is no longer purple Return the ignition ring to the center

Your Spark defaults to temperature control mode ndash you set a desired temperature and the grill holds it

If youd like to grill with the lid open grill without the heat spreader or if you just want to grill by feel you can use Fan Control Mode which allows you to control the fans yourself

Cooking in Fan Control Mode

To enter Fan Control Mode ignite the grill normally and allow the Briq to heat up for ten minutes Fan control mode will be disabled during this time to allow the briq to properly light

Turn the ignition ring to the the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise The halo will turn purple to indicate that youre in Fan Control Mode Return the ignition ring to the center

To go back to Default Temperature Control Mode follow step 02 again Turn the ignition ring to the ignite position and spin the dial one full turn clockwise until the halo is no longer purple Return the ignition ring to the center

Turning the dial up from 600ndashMAX will enable and speed up the stoking fan which heats up the grill Turning the dial down from 600ndash200F will enable and speed up the cooling fan which cools down the grill

Suggested Maintenance

AS NEEDED

Wash the kettle with a damp rag and store the cutting board inside

Re-season the cooking grates

Use a rag and cooking oil to wipe an additional coating of oil on the topside of the grates when the grill is above 400F This helps maintain a non-stick coating
