User Guide to Pinterest Comping:

Pinterest has shown incredible growth recently, an impressive 1047% increase in 2012 alone.

With users of Pinterest using it to pin everything from favourite recipes to planning their weddings it

hasn't taken long for companies to take advantage of this new social media phenomenon and use

Pinterest to run competitions.

How to find Pinterest competitions on our website

Did you know we list Pinterest competitions?

To find Pinterest competitions simply use the ‘other’ tickbox in our listings to filter out the Facebook

and Twitter competitions and scroll through

Getting started on Pinterest

If you don't have a Pinterest account, you can create one by going to http://pinterest.com and

clicking on the 'Join Pinterest' button in the middle of the home page.

You then have the option to join with your Facebook or Twitter account or by using an email

address. Simply fill in your details to create your account, it's that simple.

It is then useful to download the ‘pin it’ button to your toolbar – you can find the information on

how to do this here: https://en.help.pinterest.com/entries/22997343-Add-the-Pin-It-button

To help you better understand how to use Pinterest you may find it useful to read their ‘Pinterest

Basics’ section which is here: https://en.help.pinterest.com/categories/20033632-Pinterest-Basics

How to enter Pinterest Competitions

To enter a Pinterest competition, you must follow the promoter on Pinterest. They will normally give

you the link to their Pinterest homepage – ours for instance is

http://pinterest.com/competitionclub/

You will see a big red button that says ‘follow all’ – simply press that

Most often you will be asked to create a pin board using their chosen name and pinned images from

the promoter's page.

To create a board press the big cross button in the top right of the screen next to your name

You will then see a dropdown list with the option there to create a board.

Following the instructions from the promoter give the board a name and any wording required and

now you will be ready to start pinning images to your board.

You may be asked to re-pin images from a selection on their Pinterest page OR pin images from their

website OR even any images from the internet.

If the image is on Pinterest simply find the image you’d like to add to your board and press the ‘pin

it’ option which comes up at the top of the image when you move your cursor over it.

You will then get a pop up box like this

Use the dropdown box to choose the board you want to add the image to, and if needed, change the

description or add a #hashtag if instructed to. When you are done press the red ‘pin it’ button.

If the image is from a website then you will need to find the image and press the ‘pin it’ button you

downloaded onto your toolbar. You will then need to select the correct image you wish to use and

press the ‘pin it’ button, following the same process as above.

You will often be asked to leave a comment with a link to your created board OR fill in an entry form

with the link. To get the link to your board simply press your name in the top right corner of the

page, select the ‘your boards’ option and find the correct board and click into it. Then just copy the

link in the address bar which should look like this:

Sometimes you may just be asked to re-pin a competition image to enter – this is easy as all you

need to do is press the ‘pin it’ option and add it to one of your boards. You may find it useful to set

up a few dummy Pinterest boards – I personally have competitions, gardening ideas, cooking ideas,

things I want etc. so that you have a suitable board to re-pin the image to.

How do you know if you have won a Pinterest Competition

If you filled in an entry form then you will normally be emailed, otherwise they will normally

announce the winner on their other social media pages so keep an eye out for their Facebook and

Twitter pages.

If you commented on the competition pin with a link to your re-pin or board they may announce the

winner in the comments so it may be worth bookmarking the page and checking back once the

competition ends.
