  • User guide to activate your DAU account using the “Welcome to Okta” email

  • Step 1: Wait for the “Welcome to Okta” email.

    HELPFUL TIPS• Users who logged into DAU within the past 2 years were sent a “Welcome to

    Okta” email to activate their account between September 28th – November 5th. • New users who request a DAU account should receive the “Welcome to Okta”

    email within 24 hours. • What if I did not get an activation email?

    • You should submit the DAU SAAR (https://saar.dau.edu), requesting access to "Virtual Campus - Online Training".

    • If you do not receive an email after 24 hours:• Send an email to: [email protected]• Subject line: Status of DAU SAAR• Body: Include the last 4 of your SSN/EIN/FIN so your account can be validated and your request

    can be expedited.

  • Step 2: Open the activation email when you receive it.The activation link will EXPIRE in 30 days!

    HELPFUL TIPS• Sender: [email protected] (check your junk mail folder)• Subject: “Welcome to Okta!”• Recommendation: View the email in HTML to display the

    green activation link.

    • NEW USERNAME: Please pay attention to your new username in the message.

    • Browser Alert: Please avoid using Internet Explorer• Error after using the activation link?

    • Look for the word “caution” or “no-click” in the URL.These words may have been added based on your organization’s security policy. You must remove these words for the link to work.

    • The activation link cannot be used again after you’ve setup your account. You will receive a message saying “Token Expired”. Go to https://id.dau.edu to login to your account.

  • HELPFUL TIPS• You’ll be directed to establish a password.• Question: Do I have to set a password? I always

    login with my DoD CAC.• Answer: All account holders must establish a password

    regardless if they choose to login with their CAC.

    • Please pay attention to the password requirements. If you select a password that does not meet the requirements, you will not be able to finish the account setup.

  • HELPFUL TIPS• Select a question you’ll be able

    to answer. • Don’t like any of the question?

    You can create your own! Select “Create your own security question”.

    Step 4: Select a “Forgot Password” question

  • Step 5: Add a Phone Number HELPFUL TIPS• Benefits: You can reset your password

    and/or unlock your own account.

    • After you enter your mobile #, push the “Send Code” button.

    • You should receive the code via text message in less than a minute, however, it may vary based on your mobile provider.

    Enter the phone number you’ll use to receive codes via text message, then click Send Code to verify that it works.

    Check your phone for the passcode and enter it below. Your message should arrive in less than a minute.

    Add a phone number for resetting your password or unlocking your account using SMS (optional).Okta can send you a text message with a recovery code. This feature is useful when you don’t have access to your email.

  • Step 5 (continued): Add a phone numberI received my code, but now I’m getting an

    error!

    HELPFUL TIPS

    • Make sure you are entering the code from your phone correctly.

    • Remember, if you selected “Send again”, the first code you received may be invalid. Check to see if you received another message.

    • We recommend you delete all codes after they have been successfully used to help avoid confusion in the future.

    HELPFUL TIPS• Make sure you entered your mobile

    number correctly. • If your number is correct, we recommend

    waiting at least 1 more minute before selecting the “Send again” link.

    • Why? Because if the system was delayed, then two codes will be on the way and the first code will not be valid when you enter it.

  • Step 5 (continued): Add a Phone Number.

    HELPFUL TIPS• Once the code has been accepted,

    you will receive a message that says “Phone number successfully verified!”

    • Select the “Done” button to proceed.

  • Steps 6 & 7: Select a Security Image & “Create My Account”.

    HELPFUL TIPS• A check mark will be placed in the box

    of the security image you select.• Click the button at the bottom that

    says “Create My Account”.

    Check a picture to choose a security image and then select“Create My Account”.

    Your security image gives you additional assurance that you are logging into Okta, and not a fraudulent website.

  • Step 8: Multifactor Setup

    HELPFUL TIPS• Multifactor Authentication: Provides a second layer of

    security for users to make sure the individual accessing the account is authorized to do so.

    • Do I have to set this up?• Multifactor authentication is required when logging in

    with a Username & Password.

    • Select “Setup” under any factor listed to proceed.

    Your dashboard will display the DAU resources you've

    been granted access to. Select the applicable tile to proceed.
