    Useful websites and tools for Teaching and Learning

    In the past few years there has been an exponential increase in the amount of

    Teaching and Learning Resources on the internet. Many are subject specific andoffer recourses and worksheets and ideas. There are many others that are

    generic teaching and learning resources. Below are a few that you may drawinspiration from. It would be good to add to these with others that you have usedand compile an up to date resource bank. This list is also available on the VLEand please feel free to update it with your own suggestions..

    Many great free web based resources such as countdowntimers that play the Countdown theme or Hawaii 5.O. (if youwish) also a random name generator fruit machine that givesyou the option to remove names after they have been picked.

    This also works well as if you type in keywords for pupils toexplain. Lights out is good for enquiry, simply upload a pictureand the it can be explored with the torch lighting up only a

    small area. There are many more applications and this site iscertainly worth a look.

    Audacity is free software for recording and editing sounds. Basically it records anysound running through you computer. Plug in a microphone to your laptop and recordyou own podcasts. In the past I have got pupils to record voices into mobile phones andused this to edit them together.

    A massive collection of photographs of almost anything. Manyare copyrighted and cant be copied but if you select advancedsearch and turn on Creative Commons Licence then all imagesthat come up in your search will be free to use. (Make surethat safe search is on!)Flickr Toyshttp://bighugelabs.com/

    Use photographs to make a jigsaw, a movie poster or amagazine cover. Other options include motivational posters,picture dice, stamps and mosaics. With a little creativity thesetoys can be turned into a good learning resource.

    How Stuff Works perhaps you will be lucky to find exactly whatyou want here but there is a great deal of good quality contenthere.Dot Sub is full of user generated content that is subtitled intomany different languages. Good for EAL and Hearing impairedstudents.

    Snag Films is a great place to watch full length documentariesfrom producers like National Geographic for free.Google Video serves a lot of results from YouTube, but you willalso find non-YouTube videos in the mix that you can use inthe classroom.School Tube is a website that is similar to Teacher Tube.School Tube's content is generated by teachers and studentscontributing videos about a wide variety of topics.
