• Fundamental focus of nursing practice --- provision of acute care to the patients.• The intent of this research utilization ---to explicate the exceptional role of the nurses as a health teacher.• Focus of health teachings --- The pediatric patients• The recipient of health teachings --- the significant others of the pediatric patient. The need to provide health teaching to family members.• Simple yet comprehensive type of instructional scheme that will appeal to both patient and significant others.• The venue --- Bacolod Adventist Medical center

This utilization paper is created to design and propose a structured health teaching program for family members of patients in the pediatric unit.

Specifically, the programs aims to:

1. Help the family members in caring for their patients in collaboration with the health care provider (nurse).

2. Develops the family members’ knowledge and skills in dealing with their patients’ problem.

3. Develop a family centered health teaching impact in the eyes of the pediatric patient.

RESEARCH FLOW

IDENTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM

In the hospital under study, which is Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, such program has not been introduced yet and there were no other related programs that have been implemented.

ORGANIZATIONAL ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM

a. The support of the hospital administration or management particularly the pediatric unit.

b. The willingness and openness of the staff nurses in enhancing the program.

c. the cooperation of the family members (folks) of the patients admitted in the pediatric unit

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROGRAM

Implementation of the program was conducted to the family members that attended to the pediatric patient admitted in pediatric ward.

Introduction of the program

Giving out of colorful pamphlets to the family members.

Conduct lecture within the pediatric ward.

Giving out of evaluation form to family members.

EVALUATION OF THE PROGRAM

Active participation among family members in the pediatric ward.

Changes in the patient care among the pediatric patient was enhanced.

Full support of the hospital administration or management especially the pediatric unit.

Program was implemented in Bacolod Adventist Medical Center in Bacolod City.

DECISION MAKING

The Enhanced Structured Health Teaching Program was found to be effective by the Pediatric Staff Nurses.

The implementation of the Enhanced Structured Health Teaching Program was given a consideration for adoptation by Bacolod Adventist Medical Center in Bacolod City.

The implementation of the program was done at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center. In the three pediatric wards namely the gastrointestinal pediatric ward, respiratory pediatric ward and miscellaneous pediatric ward.
