The2017USA-MexicoFriendshipTournamentwasheldinChulaVista,CAonMay20,2017.Competitorscamefrom California, Arizona, Mexico and Costa Rica. Inaddition to hyung, dae ryun and weapons, thetournamentfeaturedcompetitioncategoriesforjumpkicks, breaking and team forms. This annual eventcelebrates the unity we experience as members ofWTSDA,aunitythattranscendsnational identity.Wecome together as a family, all members of thiswonderfulorganization.Eleven studios participated, bringing students fromArizona,CostaRicaandTijuana.Specialthankstotheinstructors and special guests who made this eventtrulymemorable.Congratulationstoall theGup,DanandDragonDivisioncompetitors!Participants list and medal results can be found onpages2&3.TangSoo!
MUKYUMCORNER:INTEGRITYAsthefirstofourseventenets,integritytakesacentralroleinourart.Ihaveheardintegritydefinedas“doingthe right thing even when no one is looking.”Deepening that stance even when the instructor isfocusing onanother student,practicinga hyungoverandoverathomewithoutanyonewatching.Integrityalsohasitsplacebeyondthedojang,ineveryareaofourlives.Livingalifeofintegritymeanslivinguptothecommitmentswemake, fromsomethingascriticalaspayingtherentontimetothingsthatseemtriviallikekeepingapromisetogivealovedoneacall.Meditation/JournalTopic:Do I livea lifeof integrity?Are there areas ofmy life wheremy integrity shinesmorebrightly?Arethereareaswhichcouldusealittlemore?WhatcanIdodifferently?

DANTEST:MAY2017Region20held its SpringDan TestonMay19, 2017.Studentsrangedinagefrom12to60,testingforChoDan, E Dan and SamDan. Thewritten test began at5pm,withthephysicalteststartingat6.Thetestendedat11:30pm.RegionalDantestsareheldtwiceperyearwith results announced at the next regional event.Thankyoutoallwhohelpedproctorandassist.
HDLPROGRAM:TEENAGERSWANTED!FormedbyMasterGiselleSharpeundertheguidanceofGrandmasterBeaudoin,theHwarangDanLeaguewascreated to develop and showcase the talent in theyouthoftheWTSDAandcreateateamof leaderstosharetheirpassionofourartintoday’sworld.This is a great opportunity for dedicated students tohelpshapethefuturewhileactingasambassadorsfortheir instructors, their studios, their Region and ourAssociation.Students fromaroundtheworldwill joinMasterSharpeandtheotherHDLinstructorsforTigerTraining Camp July 28 and 29 in Houston, Texas.Selected students will be invited to join the DragonDemonstrationTeam.Region 20 is well-represented in HDL by instructors,administrators and students. Current Region 20 HDLparticipants include Mr. Osai Robinson, Mr. PaulNoriega,Ms. BarbaraNoriega,Declan Noriega, DavidNoriega, Tamara Andrijanic, Sid Udata and AlexDennehy.
