ALWAYS wash hands, face and arms with soap and water before smoki ng, eat ing or drinki ng.

AFTER WORK, take off all work clothes and shoes. Shower, us i ng soap and water. Wear on Iy clean clothes when I eavi ng job. DO NOT wear contaminated work clothing.

All protective clothing and equi pment should be washed with soap and water after each use. Respi rators should be c leaned and filter replaced according to instructions included with respirator.

* POISON SIGNS (Symptoms)

Parathion is a very dangerous po i son. It rapidly enters thF.! body on contact with all skin surface;5, eyes and by contact with skin through wet clothes. Worker who shows any of the following poisoning signs must re­ceive immediate medical treatment or he may die.

Signs and Symptoms of Poisoning Are: Headache, nausea, vom it i ng I cramps, blurred vision, pin-point pupi Is, tightness of chest, labored breathi ng, weakness, nervousness, sweating, watering of eyes, drooling or froth­ing of mouth and nose, musc Ie spasms and coma.

POSTING TREATED AREA: Consult state regulatory agencies for posting regulations and requirements.

Speed is essential to stop absorption of poison. If possible, one person should make telephone calls while another begins treatment.

Call a phYSiCian, clinic or hospital immedia­tely in all cases of suspected poisoning. Explain victim exposed to parathion; de­scribe his condition. Until medical help is avai lable take following steps. IF BREATHING HAS STOPPED, start arti­ficial respiration immeLiately and continue until physician sees victim. IF SWALLOWED and victim is awake (~onscious) make him vomit quickly. First, gl ve soapy water or strong salty water to drink then stroke back of throat with finger to make victim vomit. Repeat by giving more water and make vomit again until vomit fluid is clear. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Have victim lie down and keep qu iet. IN CASE OF SKIN CONTACT, immediately remove wet clothing and shoes and flush skin with water for at least 15 minutes. EYE CONTACT: If splashed in eyes, im­mediately flush eyes with water for at least 15 mi nutes.

After first aid is given and physician can not come, take victim to clinic or Ho&pita/. Bring" Label Folder." Give to physician.

NOTE TO PHYSICIAN ANTIDOTE-Adm+nister atropine sulfate in large doses, 2.0 to 4.0 mg. intravenously or intramuscularly as soon as cyanosis is over­come. Repeat at 5 to 10 minute intervals unlil signs of atropinization appear. 2-PAM chloride is al so ant idotal and may be ad­ministered in conjunction with atropine. Do not give morphine or tranqui IIzers. Parathion is a strong cholinesterase inhibit­or affect i ng the central and peri phera I ner­vous system, producing cardiac and respira­tory depression. At first signs of pulmonary edema, the patient should be given supplemental oxy­gen and treated symptomatically. Continued absorpt ion of the poison may .occur and fatal relapses have been reported after initial improvement. Very close supervision is indicated. for at least 48 to 72 hours.

Parathion is a strong cholinesterase inhibit­or affecting the central and peripheral ner­vous system. producing cardiac and respira­tory depression. At first signs of pulmonary edema, the patient should be given supplemental oxy­gen and treated symptcmatically. Continued absorpt ion of the poison may .occur and fatal relapses have been reported atter initial improvement. Very close supervision is indicated. for at least 48 to 72 hours.
