    Thc work of t he Copyright Ofice is divided into twoparts: ( I ) The current business, covering applicationsreceived since the reorganization of t he Ofice under theIiegistcr in 1897; (2 ) the arrears, the classification, ercdit-ing, and indexing of the en tries and deposits prior to 1897(i. e., from 1870, when the copyright business was firstplaced under the Librarian of Congress).

All copyrightapplications reccived up to and including June 30 had beenpassed upor1 and rrfunds made.

    The total unfinished business for the full twelve yearsfro111 July I , 1897, to June 30, I c)oc), amounts t o but $81.66,agaitlst a total completed business for the same period of$858,422.75.

    At the close of busiiless on July 9, lgcq, t he tit les for recordhad been dated, classilied, and nulrlbered to July z (inclu-sive) for books and periodicals and t o Jul y r for all otherclasses. All titles had been indexed up to and inclutiingJune 30.

    The articles of all classes tleposited during the year hadbeen stamped, catalogued, ancl credited up to the receiptsof June 30, inclusive.
