Why I Am Interested In This Career

• One reason I am interested in being a Coast Guard is that I like to sail and be on the ocean.

• Also I have been sailing since I was little.• I think that being a Coast Guard would be

more fun then sitting at a desk.

Description of a Coast Guard

• The Coast Guard keeps U.S. waters safe• They take part in search and rescue • The coast guard Patrols Oceanic borders to make sure

no one enters illegally or bring illegal items into the U.S.

Training/Education needed to be a U.S. Coast Gaurd

• You need 4 years of High School • You need to go to the Coast guard Academy or

go to the Officer Candidate school which is 17 weeks of training

• Level 1 Boat Swains mate third class earns 22,000-27,000 Need completion of Coast Guard test’s and training

• Level 2 Boat Swains mate second class 25,000-34,000 you need 2-4 years of experience

• Chief Boat Swains mate 37,000-54,000 you need 6-8 years of experience

could be away for 1 month at a time at sea.• Long hours work 12 hours a day 7 days a

• In Massachusetts the minimal wage is $8.00 an hour

• In Alaska the minimal wage is $7.75 an hour• In California the minimal wage is $8.00 an

hour• In Connecticut the minimal wage is $8.25 an
