They include: Published multiple manuscripts on topics such as pediatric urolithiasis, vesicoureteral reflux and hemorrhagic cystitis. Participated in several multi-center research consortia to advance research in the field of pediatric urology. Moderated sessions at The Society for Fetal Urology/The Society for Pediatric Urology meeting in San Diego in May 2016. Presented on eight different topics including “Factors Associated with Recurrent Pediatric Urolithiasis: A Multi-Institutional Analysis” and “Disparities in Access to Newborn Circumcision” in San Diego, Dallas and Nashville, Tenn. Urology research continues to thrive PROGRAM UPDATES Dana Giel, MD, was named to the National Executive Committee for Society for Fetal Urology. Dana Giel, MD, and Gerald Jerkins, MD, were named Castle Connolly Top Doctors in Pediatric Urology in Memphis, 2016. We continue to expand our services in Jackson, Tenn., and will open a new 30,000-square foot outpatient center in Fall 2017. Medical Director of Robotic Surgery Joe Gleason, MD, has helped increase volume and improve productivity for Le Bonheur’s robotic program in 2016. Procedures currently performed at Le Bonheur include pyeloplasty, ureteral reimplantation, bowel and bladder reconstruction, and nephrectomy procedures. Urologists Joe Gleason, MD, Dana Giel, MD, and Gerald Jerkins, MD, helped successfully separate ischiopagus conjoined twins Miracle and Testimony Ayeni of Nigeria on Nov. 7. Born Nov. 16, 2015, the girls shared a pelvis, two bladders, and intestinal tract. Division Highlights Our urology program is recognized nationally by U.S. News & World Report as a top pediatric urology program. Our urology team provides the only comprehensive pediatric urologic care in the region. Our team of experts includes board- certified pediatric urologists, nurse practitioners and dedicated urodynamics and nursing staff. We also have the region’s only ACGME- accredited pediatric urology fellowship program for training future pediatric urologists. Le Bonheur offers the only comprehensive children’s continence center focused on bed-wetting, urinary incontinence and recurring urinary tract infections in the Memphis area.
