    FLOOD AFTERMATH

Urgent Request for Erosion ControlEroding river banks causing Imminent Threat

to homes on Longmont Dam RoadSUMMARY

As a result of the recent catastrophic flooding, the North St. Vrain River spilled way over its

banks creating a dramatically wider and deeper secondary channel which has caused exten-

sive damage to the homes located near the junction of Highway 36 and Longmont Dam Rd.

The property closest to the junction was completely destroyed by the river, but four prop-

erties (37, 39, 55, and 63 LDR) remain standing, though at various stages of risk (one home

precariously perched on a 25 ft. dropoff, one home partially fallen into river, etc.). These prop-

erties can still be saved with quick action to halt the erosion occuring on the newly formedriverbanks. An erosion control specialist who visited the site said that one excavator for one

afternooncould save all four homes until a more permanent solution can be put into place.

In an attempt to slow the erosion, we have been hiking in with crews of volunteers, but taking

on this daunting challenge with just shovels and wheelbarrows will not be enough; heavy

equipment is needed to complete the task. This document has been prepared to establish

the urgency and seriousness of our situation, and to encourage you to give priority to our

neighborhood, which not only provides access to our homes, but is the gateway to a critical

water supply for the City of Longmont (Ralph Price Resevoir).

Thank you for giving this your utmost attention,

Ken Feldman, Gayle Gordon, Regina Cleveland, Sarah Cleveland, Sal Coppolecchia & Gina Coppolecchia
