    Background

    The VSO Rwanda Disability Programme began in 2006 with a three year grant from DfID Rwanda. The three core elementsof the original programme are national advocacy for inclusive national development, strengthening civil society, andimproving the quality of specialist services. In 2013, the VSO Rwanda Disability Programme has been awarded a three yeargrant from DfID Rwanda to continue its rights based programme targeting the three core aspects of the sector mentionedabove. The overall goal of the VSO Rwan da Disability Programme is that the rights of people with disabilities indevelopment are fulfilled. The purpose of the programme is that development plans reflect needs; and services areresponsive to people with disabilities .

    What does the role involve?

    The volunteer will be recruited to support the development of income generation skills and opportunities for people withdisabilities

    Baseline survey of knowledge, attitudes and practices in relation to disability mainstreaming Work with the District Disability Officer to formulate project proposals for fundraising Support and actively engage in the planning, review and budgeting cycle of the District. Assist with development and implementation of program annual action plans Engage international actors and partners in local interventions Support national level advocacy and engagement activities of VSO

    Skills, qualifications and experience required

    Working knowledge of Human Rights and Disability Rights Understanding of the Social Model of Disability (i.e. not medical / charity model) Understanding of mainstreaming principles Able to design and deliver tailored programme of training, coaching and support Excellent training and coaching skills

    Good networking skills

    And the rest....Youll be based out of Nyagatare District in Rwanda and will be expected to join around December. We expect you tocommit to at least 24 months to make a sustainable contribution to our development goals . In return, we provide youwith extensive pre-departure training, and basic financial support which includes a local living allowance, return flights,visas and accommodation.
