What are our goals?World Domination - nothing less
• Fiber into every home & business in the community• Fiber into every home & business in the county• Bandwidth in our small community at big-city prices
Multiple providers of IP-based services• Internet access• Television - Broadcast and On-Demand• Telephone• Storage and Disaster Recovery• Security and Remote Monitoring• Telemedicine• Smart-grid & Energy Conservation
8
What are our challenges? The clock is ticking
• February 1, 2013 is sooner than we would like• Lots of construction to do next summer
Freezing the technology creep• Is symmetric 100 Mbps into every home too much or
not enough?• Thanks Google.......
Future Expansion Model• BTOP grant only funds FTTP for 10% of community• The new Utopia model looks promising for us
9
Lessons learned from UC2BHave great maps
• Investing in GIS is well worth itSell fiber strands to raise funds
• IRU’s are messy but necessaryGet everybody on-board
• Think broadly about Anchor Institutions• Plan for multi-site businesses
Local bandwidth is free and compelling• Access to local school resources from home• Internet/Local pricing models
