With international sports events being held in Japan—the Rugby World Cup this year and the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games next year—there will sure to be many domestic and international tourists visiting our city. We would like those tourists to walk around Urayasu to experience the allures of our city.

We are currently reviewing the public signs around the city so residents and visitors can travel around smoothly.

Until now, we have been installing information boards for bus stops, public facilities, and cultural properties when updating the area around train stations and public facilities.

Unfortunately, the signs were not clear or easy to understand for everyone, because the design was different depending on the installation purpose, lack of consideration for the disabled, unthorough maintenance, and other factors.

There were also plans to create easy-to-understand signs around the Mihama and Irifune areas and other parts of the city when the Keiyo Line opened, but that has not been realized.

Learning from these mistakes, we are currently updating old information boards and signs based on the three basic principles of “a comfortable and smooth usage

environment,” “easy for anyone to use,” and “easy maintenance.”We are also considering creating multi-language signs from the perspective of

multiculturalism. As the first step in creating public information boards, we are installing digital

signage with touch-panel functions at train stations and looking to unify them with the bus location system that is already in operation.

In the digital signage, we plan to install not only a search function for public facilities but for restaurants and other community information as well.

The flow of people is what vitalizes a town. We will work to create a city with even more vitality by making public signs easier to understand.
