Kevin Molony Acting Corporal Kevin John MOLONY, MM. No. 328. He joined the AIF on 25 January 1915 and was a member of the Anzac Provost Corps, presumably at Gallipoli, and was awarded the Military Medal when a member of 2nd Division Provost. QDA 1926 and gained a Bachelor of Ag. Science in 1930. He joined the Department of Agriculture and Stock (DPI) as a Field Entomologist. David enlisted in the AIF on 12 December 1941 at the rank of Private and was quickly posted to the Malaria Control Unit. Promotion was rapid and he was discharged on 26 October 1945 as a senior member of the Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit. World War II World War I Past Students who have served with Distinction in the Australian Defence Forces Wartime Charles Bourne Brigadier Charles Cecil Francis BOURNE, DSO, ED. QX6008. QDA 1935. He joined the AIF and rose to command the 2/12th Australian Infantry Battalion and was awarded the Companion of the Distinguished Service Order. On discharge he returned to QAHS&C as a member of the Plant Breeding staff and continued his military career in the CMF, later commanding the 25th Battalion and the 7th Brigade. John Boyd Pilot Officer John Livingstone BOYD, DFM. 404548. QAHS&C 1934–35. He enlisted in the RAAF in October 1940 and posted to 185 Sqn (Spitfires) in Malta. John was awarded the DFM on 1 May 1942 “for courage and skill as a leader” and was killed in an air battle two weeks later on 14 May 1942. George Clark Flying Officer George Kenneth Llewellyn CLARK, DFM 426314. QDD 1931. He joined the RAAF in June 1942 and posted to 460 Sqn in England flying Lancaster heavy bombers. George was awarded the DFM on 16 January 1945 for “skill and fortitude in operations against the enemy” and was discharged in January 1946. Owen Cusack Lieutenant Colonel Owen CUSACK, MM, ED QX37212. QDA 1948. He joined the AIF and was awarded the MM while serving with the 26th Battalion. The citation reads “for cheerful gallantry and ingenuity at Buoi on 22 May 1945”. After the war he served in the CMF and rose to command the 25th Battalion Royal Queensland Regiment. Jack Doyle Squadron Leader Jack Carlisle DOYLE, DSO, DFC and Bar. 404604. Attended QAHS&C 1935. He joined the RAAF on 8 November 1940 and served with 3 Sqn RAF flying Hurricanes and it was during this time he was awarded the DSO and the DFC and Bar. Jack was posted to 450 Sqn RAAF as CO in October 1944 where he was recommended for another DSO and twice recommended for Bars to his existing DFC and Bar. He was discharged in February 1946. Howard Goulter Flight Lieutenant Howard Murdoch GOULTER, DFM. 404893. QDA (Hons.) 1938. He enlisted in the RAAF in December 1940. Howard was awarded the DFM while serving with 8 Sqn RAF (Bristol Blenheims) for “marked determination in numerous attacks on the enemy”. He was posted to 36 Sqn RAAF (DC-3) and discharged 22 October 1945. Albert Greenfield Flight Lieutenant Albert Paulton GREENFIELD, DFC. 414674. QAHS&C 1935. He joined the RAAF in November 1941 and was later posted to 61 Sqn RAF (Lancasters). Albert was awarded the DFC for “Numerous sorties displaying great courage” in bombing missions over Germany. He was killed on a bombing raid over Hamburg on 9 April 1945. John Morrison Flight Lieutenant John Roy MacLaine MORRISON, DFC and Bar. 425335. QAHS&C 1938–39. He joined the RAAF in February 1942. John was awarded the DFC and Bar while serving with 7 Sqn RAF (Lancasters). The citation read “skill and fortitude in operations against the enemy”. He was discharged from 8 Sqn RAAF on 7 June 1946. Robert Norris Corporal Robert Cunningham NORRIS, MM. QX5802. QAHS&C 1934. He enlisted in the AIF on 30 May 1940. He was posted to the 2/15th Battalion and saw service in North Africa and New Guinea. Robert was awarded his MM for “courage and dash of high order at Bumi 27 September 1943”. He was discharged on 23 February 1944. Peter Paull Acting Wing Commander Peter McCallum PAULL, DFC. 270845. QAHS&C 1936. He joined the RAAF in March 1940 and was posted to 7 Sqn RAAF in September 1942 (Beauforts). Peter was awarded the DFC for “skill and courage on numerous sorties including Arafura Sea”. During this time he was also awarded the US Silver Star for courage for action in the Arafura Sea. He commanded 7 Sqn before being posted to 462 Sqn (Halifax bombers) and appointed its CO in January 1945. He was discharged in February 1946. Mervyn Powell Squadron Leader Mervyn POWELL, DFC. 402817. QDA 1932. He joined the RAAF in October 1940. Mervyn was awarded the DFC while serving with 40 Sqn RAF in 1941. The citation read “for bombing attack on Tunis in 1942”. He was killed in action over Lille on 11 May 1944 while serving with 51 Sqn RAF (Halifax). Owen Price Squadron Leader Owen PRICE, MID. 271702. QAHS&C 1927–1928. He joined the RAAF 15 July 1940. Owen commanded 8 Sqn RAAF (Beauforts) and was awarded a MID for courage during operations over Rabaul. The official history of 8 Sqn states “Price was awarded the DFC for what was officially described as “One of the most gallant acts in the history of the RAAF”. No official record can be found that he was recommended for the DFC but an unsuccessful campaign was launched to award Owen a VC for this action. He was killed in a “flying battle” over Rabaul on 9 November 1943. His Wireless Air Gunner on this mission was Flight Sergeant TC HOOPER who was at QAHS&C in 1940. William Robertson Flight Lieutenant William George ROBERTSON, DFC. 405365. QDA 1934, QDH 1935, Queensland Agricultural College Council Gold Medallist in 1987. He joined the RAAF in March 1941 and was posted to 30 Sqn RAAF (Beaufighters) and served with the Sqn in New Guinea. George was awarded the DFC for “Attacks on Kalai, Borpop, Gasmata, Tobera etc” in West New Guinea. He was discharged from 60 Operational Base Unit in February 1946. Aubrey Schindler Captain Aubrey John SCHINDLER, MC. QX45299. QDD (Hons.) 1934, B.Ag.Sc. He enlisted in the AIF on 19 September 1941 whilst the Assistant Plant Breeder at QAHS&C. As a member of the 25th Battalion Aubrey received the MC for “most distinguished service at Milne Bay on 30/31 August 1942”. He was discharged from the 25th Bn AIF on 27 March 1946. Charles Scott Leading Seaman Charles Douglas SCOTT, DSM. 22164. QAHS&C 1935–37. He joined the RAN in June 1938. Charles was posted to HMAS “Koala” and was awarded the DSM for “courage and devotion during air raid on Darwin”. He also served on HMAS “Waterhen”, “Australia” and “Dubbo” and was discharged on 18 April 1946. Stanley Walsh Lieutenant Stanley Richard WALSH, DCM. QX835. QDA 1936, Queensland Agricultural College Council Gold Medallist in 1989. Enlisted in the AIF 17 May 1940. Stanley was posted to 2/15th Battalion and was awarded the DCM as a WO2 in PNG. The citation read “physical endurance and great courage on numerous times”. The presentation was made at Government House Queensland on 20 November 1946 whilst an Instructor at QAHS&C with the Commonwealth Rural Training Scheme. Donald Lawrie Lieutenant Donald Charles LAWRIE, DCM, MID. VX7410. QAHS&C 1932. He joined the 2/23rd Battalion on 10 November 1939. As a Corporal in the 2/23rd he was MID and as a Sergeant in the same Bn he was awarded the DCM for “Outstanding gallantry and fine leadership at Singua” in PNG. On posting to the 2/15th Battalion he was twice awarded additional MID’s. He was discharged on 4 December 1944. William Hall Private William Kerr Hall, MM. No. 557. QAC 1907–08. Enlisted in the 4th Australian Machine Gun Battalion of 4th Australian Division. Recommended for the Military Medal on 23 September 1918. The citation reads “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in operations east of Le Verguier on The Hindenburg Line”. (No photo available)

Kevin Molony

Acting Corporal Kevin John MOLONY, MM. No. 328. He joined the AIF on 25 January 1915 and was a member of the Anzac Provost Corps, presumably at Gallipoli, and was awarded the Military Medal when a member of 2nd Division Provost. He died of wounds in Belgium on 2 November 1917.
