Attention College Bound and

College Enrolled Students

Applications are now being accepted through Monday, November 16, 2015 for scholarships for post high school educational opportunities. Applicants must have at least two years' membership in the Upper Midwest Endurance and Competitive Trail Association. The applicants must have participated in at least 25 rides sponsored by UMECRA and intend to study for at least a two year program. Former Wisconsin members Ray and Audrey Gehrig established this scholarship in 1996. Additional tax deductible contributions are welcome for anyone at any time. Many UMECRA members have made charitable contributions to support this scholarship fund in the past. We encourage members to continue to add memorial gifts and honorariums to

the fund to support this worthy scholarship for youth and others returning to school. Have you thought about putting

on a distance clinic? This spring UMECRA had at least 4 distance clinics – 3 riding and 1 driving. These are one of our most successful recruiting tools. They range from seminars with speakers, power points and demos to getting out and riding with mentors on 5 – 10 mile rides. The ones I have been a part of have been extremely well attended, and even if the people don’t get out and ride right away we’ve planted seeds for the future. People learn so much and are very appreciative of the help and advice. There is still time to get a fall clinic set up. UMECRA will pay the liability insurance for your clinic if you put one on. 2016-2017 Rider Reps Candidates Sought

Are you interested in being a Rider Rep in

UMECRA? Rider representatives

are the rider's voice on the UMECRA Board of

Directors. As rider rep you are a crucial voice in

the decisions that are made by this organization.

You must be a UMECRA rider member for at

least 2 years and be at least 18 years of age but

not a ride manager and be able to attend at least 2

out of the three board meetings we have a year.

This is a two year term which begins after the

January 2016 General Meeting. Board meetings

are typically in March, November and January.

Nominations are due to the UMECRA secretary

by the UMECRA November Board meeting on

November 7th. This year the rider reps will be

voted during the January meeting. Contact Jill

SPECIAL AWARD NOMINATIONS! Nominations are being sought for an award for Ride Managers and Vets named The Dr. Beecher Shining Light Award. The form is on the

UMECRA website under the Awards tab and will – like the Hall of Fame nomination be voted on at the November board meeting. Qualities we are looking for in the Dr. Beecher Shining Light Award might include: being organized, helpful and honest, a sense of fairness, knowledge of the sport, consistency, able to educate and able to delegate, the candidate should mentor others and be able to can deal with a crisis. This will be given out at the annual banquet. Thirty days after the mailing of the UMECRA newsletter ride results printed therein become

official. Errors must be reported to the points keeper, ride manager and UMECRA secretary within

the 30 days. Riders are responsible for checking ride results and point standings. If errors are

found after 30 days, the UMECRA executive board, ride manager and points keeper must be

petitioned in writing by the rider and informed of the error. The secretary will inform the board of

the petition. Correct placings and points should be awarded unless intentionally delay of error
