UpgradingUse this section to learn how to upgrade from Software UsageAnalysis version 1.3 to Software Use Analysis 2.2.Important: The upgrade of the server is recommended if you wantto preserve your configuration settings. Perform a fresh installationof Software Use Analysis 2.2 if you do not plan to invest your timein customizing the instance of the server.

To upgrade from Software Use Analysis 2.2 or 2.1, run version 2.2server installer, and it will perform all the upgrade tasksautomatically, including the restarting of the server services.

Planning and preparing for the upgradeBefore you upgrade to Software Use Analysis version 2.2, review the upgradingprerequisites and the types of data that are migrated during the upgrade.

Before you begin

When you use Windows Auth to connect to Endpoint Manager server database inSoftware Use Analysis 1.3 and you install Software Use Analysis 2.2 on a differentcomputer, you need to make sure that the Windows Auth user is able to connect toEndpoint Manager database with the same credentials from Software Use Analysis2.2 computer. Otherwise, you will loose computer properties mapping duringmigration.

Procedure1. Review the hardware and software prerequisites.2. Review the types of data that can be migrated:

Users Only active (not deleted) users are migrated.

Contracts and saved reportsContracts and saved reports are not migrated. You can find informationabout contracts and saved reports in the migration log.

Roles Roles are not migrated.

Computer groupsAll computer groups must be migrated.

Data sourcesMultiple data sources are supported.

Important: To migrate the data, the Software Use Analysis 2.2 server must beable to access the Software Use Analysis 1.3 database. If you install bothversions of the application on the same computer, you can set the path to thedatabase as the localhost. If you install each version on a separate computer, you must provide a valid network path to the database server.

3. Optional: To verify the upgrade and migration process, examine theinformation that is stored in the following log file:SUA_INSTALLATION_DIRECTORY\work\tema\webapp\WEB-INF\log\settings_migration.log

Before you migrate the catalog from Software Use Analysis version 1.3 toversion2.2, resolve all ambiguous signatures. They are based on executable filesthat are common for multiple versions of a software product and thus might matchdifferent versions of a product. For information how to resolve ambiguoussignatures, see: Managing ambiguous software.

Ambiguous signatures that are not resolved in advance are migrated but requirefurther modifications. They are listed in the log that is in the C:\ProgramFiles\BigFix Enterprise\TEMA\log directory. The following information identifiesa signature as ambiguous.2013-09-12 13:48:53 (+0:02:08.515) INFO: Software Title Release ’SQL *PLUS’ has a defective signaturebecause it uses ambiguous executables but is missing disambiguating registry data. You must add registry data to this signature before it can detect software.

About this task

Migration of the Software Use Analysis 1.3 database is a read-only process. Afterthe migration, you can continue using the database with Software Use Analysis 1.3.You can also discard the database if you plan to use only Software Use Analysis2.2.
