Section 1 Purple Line Extension ConstructionUpdates Station Completion Percentages
This month, we focus on work progress in the three Section 1 stations.
Workers have completed the excavation of all three stations and poured thestation floors. The walls connecting to the floor have also been poured. As theremainder of the walls are poured, the temporary support of excavation (SOE)structures are removed, creating more open space within the station boxes.
Here is the progress status complete for each station:
Wilshire/La Brea Station: 49% completeWilshire/Fairfax Station: 41% completeWilshire/La Cienega Station: 26% complete
While work on the Wilshire/La Brea Station began before the other stations, itwill be the last completed. This is because it still holds the support system forthe tunnel boring machines.

Construction on the station roof continues at Wilshire/La Brea Station
Concrete pours continue for the Wilshire/La Cienega Station. The invert level (the ground floor of thestation) is now complete.

Piling on the North Side of Wilshire Bl 60% Complete
Piling has been moving right along at Wilshire/Rodeo with 60% of the north sidepiles installed. Geotechnical instrumentation installations to monitor groundmovement continue along the tunnel alignment on the west end of the City.

Workers Continue to Assemble Tunnel Boring Machines
Assembly of the tunnel boring machines (TBMs) continue day and night onConstellation Bl within the launch box closure. The design-build contractoranticipates launching the first TBM this month. It will head east toward BeverlyHills. West of the launch box and east of Avenue of the Stars, the waterlinerelocation work is also anticipated to begin in March. The Century Park Eastmid-block traffic signal installation is nearing completion and expected to beoperational before the end of this month.

Metro Art Supports Veteran Arts on the Westside On Wednesday, February 26, Metro Art and Community Relations attended theVeterans Creative Arts Festival at the VA West LA Campus. Several Veteranssubmitted paintings and mixed media masterpieces to be judged for the 2020Local Competition. Winning art entries will be submitted for the 2020 NationalCompetition.
The 2019 first place winners, Sydney Tuggerson Jr. and Phyllis T. Miller, wereeager to chat about the benefits of art programs for Veterans. They both agreedthat "Art is healing."

At the event, Metro also shared information about the upcoming Metro Arts andVeterans collaboration for Section 3 of Purple Line Extension Project. In thecoming months, Metro Art and Community Relations will continue Veteransoutreach to collect artists' input for the future Westwood/VA Hospital Station.
