UPDATES ON COVID-19 VACCINATIONS Message From The CEO By now you
likely are aware that our state is in Phase 2B of COVID vaccina
on
distribu on, which means that everyone over the age of 65 is
currently eligible for a
COVID vaccina on. I’ve heard from many of you who have managed to
get your
first dose, but I’ve also heard from many of you struggling to
figure out where or
how to get your vaccina on. Our state is recommending that you
contact your primary care physician as a
first step. If they don’t have the vaccina on available, you can go
online to the state’s “Phase Finder” website
to see vaccina on loca ons near you. h
ps://form.findyourphasewa.org/210118771253954
The state is working to distribute as many vaccina ons as quickly
as possible, and while everyone is doing
the best that they can, systems are being developed while being
implemented, which is always a
challenge. Vaccina on clinics o en aren’t clear on how many doses
they will receive un l the night before
they receive them, which of course makes scheduling appointments
very difficult. And, of course, not as
much of the vaccine is available as is needed. While this can feel
very frustra ng, we have all been wai ng
for this vaccina on for a long me and we’ll all do our best to be
as pa ent as possible. Northshore Senior
Center is of course commi ed to doing all we can to help our
members and others in the community to get
vaccinated. We’ll be keeping people updated via Facebook
www.Facebook.com/MyNorthshoreSeniorCenter,
the Navigator or emails as we have any informa on.
As some of you have started ge ng vaccinated, we’ve had more and
more people asking us when we’ll
open. Of course, while some of our members have been vaccinated,
most of our staff and volunteers have
not and we need to ensure their safety along with everyone else’s.
Senior centers across the state are in
regular communica on and are an cipa ng very specific guidance from
the Governor
related to when we can reopen. We hope to con nue to offer some
addi onal
services by appointment only over the coming month or so. More
informa on will be
available here and on our website.
We are anxiously awai ng seeing you all again. Please stay pa ent
as we do our best
to stay pa ent too!

3 DON’T WORRY ABOUT WHERE YOUR NEXT MEAL WILL COME FROM, WE HAVE
YOU COVERED.
FREE & Open To Anyone In Our Community Did you know that the
Northshore Senior Center has a full Food Pantry available to anyone
in our community for
FREE, regardless of age or need? Since the pandemic hit almost one
year ago, we jumped into ac on to meet the
need and help slow/prevent food insecurity throughout our
community. Making sure that people have what they
need to stay healthy is extremely important to us, and we could not
have done this without the support of many in
our community. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has donated food,
money, me, and paper bags to our
Community Food Pantry this past month. It has been so great to see
a community come together to help those in
need. We have seen a steady increase of individuals and families
(over 600+ per week) needing support, and
without your generous contribu ons, we would not be able to make
the impact we are on a daily basis.
For those of you who have stopped by the Food Pantry recently, you
will no ce that we have moved our loca on
from the front of the building to the south side of the building.
We recently finished our permanent indoor food
pantry (that we look forward to opening when it is safe to do so
based on the Governor’s health guidelines). Un l
this me, we have created a “stayinyourcar” food pantry. Our team of
staff and volunteers
will hand you a grocery checklist and pack individual bags based on
your requests. We will
then deliver your bag of food directly to your car so that you
don’t have to wait in the cold
winter weather. You may start to see some new policies/procedures
as we get closer to
opening. These updates will allow us to con nue to receive crucial
funding and provide this
service for our community. Upon opening we will be following all
CDC and Washington
Health Department guidelines. Our FREE food pantry is open to
anyone (seniors, family,
individuals, etc.).

Medical Equipment Loans Are Back Last March, we made the difficult
decision to suspend our medical equipment loan
program because we did not have a way to adequately sterilize all
of the
equipment and supplies to meet the standards required as a result
of COVID. We’re
thrilled to report that, thanks to some CARES Act funds provided by
King County,
we have been able to purchase a medical equipment sterilizing
machine that will be
able to safely clean wheelchairs, commodes, walkers and other
equipment so that
we can resume the program. We are excited to announce that star ng
on the 16th
of February, we will opening up hours to drop off and pickup
medical equipment.
Drop off and pickup hours will be Monday and Wednesday 12:30 3:30pm
by
appointment only. Addi onal mes can also be arranged. To inquire
about
availability of equipment or pick up equipment please schedule an
appointment
through our front desk (425) 4884821.

HERE TO HELP.
Kenmore Senior Center Happy February to each and all. The promise
of brighter days is on the horizon as we move
toward spring. Since February is tradi onally the “Month of Love”,
I’d like to share a project
we have been working on that will spread some love to our
community.
The Kenmore loca on of the Northshore Senior Center has been
granted funds to establish a
permanent food pantry. As economic hardship and food insecurity due
to the pandemic will
con nue for the foreseeable future, we view this food pantry as an
essen al service and a
stabilizing influence for our friends and neighbors. We are busy
making the necessary
modifica ons to our Annex building and will keep you informed
through this newsle er and
social media as to when we will open.
If you are interested in volunteering for the Kenmore Food Pantry,
please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Foram
Shah at ForamS@mynorhthshore or call either (425) 2861032 or (425)
4874221 ext#232. We will keep a list of
those who are interested and contact you with details as opening
day draws near.
Kenmore Senior Center will also be distribu ng emergency funds
granted through the City of Kenmore for those
whose finances have been directly impacted by COVID19. This funding
is available to those living within the
Kenmore city limits and who have past due u lity, rent or mortgage
bills. Again, watch for details in this newsle er,
on social media and the City of Kenmore website.
Looking forward to seeing each other in person! Un l then, stay
safe and healthy.
Mill Creek Senior Center While our facility is s ll closed to
inperson programming, the Mill Creek Senior Center will
have volunteers onsite MondayFriday, available 11am1pm to answering
any and all phone
calls. Our goal is to try to help answer as many of your ques ons
as we can or refer you to
our program/services at our Bothell facility . If you are around
the Mill Creek Senior Center,
stop by, wave to our team of staff/volunteers, and take a look at
current program fliers that
have been posted on our windows to keep you informed. We are
hopeful that we will be
able to provide programming again soon when it is safe to do
so.

www.northshoreseniorcenter.org/calendar/northshorecalendar. Our
classes benefit everyone. Here is some
feedback about our Balance & Strength class facilitated by
Tammy Moll our Ac vi es Coordinator.
“I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the way you teach the
Balance and Strength class. It is one of the classes
that Mark is most focused in, and that he's able to par cipate in
independently i.e. without me promp ng him to
follow the teacher from the sidelines. I think you do a great job
of having a balance of a predictable rou ne that you
follow each me, with addi onal teaching and instruc on to make sure
that individuals are doing each move correctly.
You have such a calm and encouraging manner!” Mark (Inclusion
Program)
“I have been home bound for about 10 years and never had much
flexibility at all but a er taking the class for just the
first couple weeks I no ce that I could move around so much be er.
I also no ced that I had a lot more flexibility as far
as even turning my waist one way and being able to bend down
farther like with socks and shoes which I haven't had in
years. It doesn't last just during the class it works a er class.
it's such a good workout that you want to do that workout
and then see how quickly your body reacts to it. You want to do it
every me. I can see the contour of my body has
changed and it's already making a difference. My clothes are a li
le looser and I am able to get up and move. I can just
do things where I wasn't able to do things at all. My energy is so
much be er now than it was before star ng class. Not
that I can go and run around but just be able to be awake and be
alert and be able to move around my house and do a
few more things that I wasn't able to do before. It has helped my
mind be able to be more focused and able to
concentrate be er. I would recommend this class to someone who
believes they will never be able to do so many things
because of body limita ons as well as mind .the really great news
is that I no longer have a caregiver.” Barbara (Senior
Center Member)
