A SOFT-SOLUTIONS installation in your company can neither be carried out in a standardized fashion,
nor can general guidelines for the technical requirements be defined. This document only provides
general technical information.
The hardware specifications for the server and client mentioned here takes into account that, apart
from SOFT-SOLUTIONS, further applications may be used on the corresponding systems. The require-
ments described were therefore defined with regards to stability and performance.
The following installation options are explained:

SOFT-SOLUTIONS is a client-server application. The communication between the client and the
server is based on TCP/IP and ODBC data sources. It is not necessary to connect network drives
between the clients and the server (SQL database).
The following Microsoft SQL versions can be used:
▪ 2012
▪ 2012 R2
▪ 2014
▪ 2016
The Microsoft SQL Express Edition is a database system from Microsoft that allows free us-age for
any purpose without needing a license or contract.
If you want to install SOFT-SOLUTIONS on a SQL Standard 2012 or higher database server, it must
be installed and configured by the installation date.
If a 2012, 2012 R2, 2014, or 2016 Express Edition database server installation is desired, this can
be done by soft-nrg Development GmbH during the SOFT-SOLUTIONS installation.
If there are one or more Microsoft SQL Server 7 or MSDE 1.0 instances on the provided server
that are not related to SOFT-SOLUTIONS, no further installation of SOFT-SOLUTIONS can be
performed using Microsoft SQL Express Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2014, or 2016. In this case, the
existing instances must first be migrated to MSSQL Server 2012 or later. This migration will not be
performed by soft-nrg Development GmbH.
The Oracle database server versions Oracle 11g Release 2 and Oracle 12c Release 1 can be used.
If you want to install SOFT-SOLUTIONS on an Oracle 11g Release 2 or Oracle 12c Release 1 data-
base server, it must be installed and configured by the installation date. This may vary with OEM
customers.

SOFT-SOLUTIONS requires the following hardware requirements for your database server:

additional branch with its own instance/database with approx. 20 concurrent users

▪ at least 25 GB free hard drive space (current industry standard RAID technology is
recommended)
▪ additionally, at least 25 GB for each additional instance/database
▪ Network Adapter

For Windows, operating systems with an active firewall, problems may occur unless they have
been specially configured. Service packs/patches and Internet Explorer are to be kept up to
date.
* In 64-bit environments, SOFT-SOLUTIONS runs in 32-bit mode. The 32-bit ODBC driver must be
used and configured.

For the communication between SOFT-SOLUTIONS modules and external systems, a web server is
needed - this can be installed directly on the database server.
The hardware requirements are based on those of the database server.
The following points should be noted:
▪ Memory (RAM)
▪ depends on the operating system, but at least 2 GB
▪ every database with one branch needs an additional 300 MB, each additional branch
in every database requires an additional 100 MB
▪ Hard Disc Space
▪ at least 10 GB of free disk space
▪ when using the soft-pad, additional hard disk space is required for storing images;
the space required depends on the camera resolution of the hardware used
In principle, a branch can be connected to the database server via a data transmission line. For this
purpose, however, sufficient bandwidth has to be made available. The necessary stability can be
provided by a standard fixed connection (“dedicated line”) with sufficient bandwidth.
VPN connections via DSL without using a terminal server are not supported by soft-nrg Development
GmbH.
The connection via a standard fixed connection is not recommended.

Example: 4 processor cores for 40 users (40 Users/10 Users per core = 4 cores).

Example: 4 GB of memory for 40 users. An additional 2 GB of free memory should be
used for the operating system. This results in a total of 6 GB of memory.

Depending on the number of user accesses, the following rule of thumb applies when
dimensioning the terminal server:
▪ For each user, the terminal server should have about 100 MB of additional memory, as
well as at least 500 MB of hard disk space. The more users working on the terminal server,
the faster the processor speed should be. No more than 10 users are recommended per
processor core.
▪ The available hardware will be statistically distributed over the number of users, whereby
the terminal server will allocate its resources dynamically. This means that if a user needs
more re-sources than another, they will be dynamically assigned to them.
▪ For performance reasons, the terminal server should not use the same hardware as the
database server, but instead should be similar to how a normal client would access. For
the database server, the same technical prerequisites as described in Section 1 – Client-
Server Installation Option (Local Network) apply.
SOFT-SOLUTIONS can also be operated on terminal servers connected via Citrix. The usage of Citrix
requires additional licensing.
The minimum requirements for this option are the same as described in Section 2.1 – Windows Ter-
minal Server Installation Option.

The NTFS file system must be used for all Windows systems.
If virus scanners are used on workstations and database servers, appropriate exceptions (on-access
and on-demand) must be set up on the database files, the program folders, and as well as the
deploy directory for SOFT-SOLUTIONS.
We recommend periodically backing up the SOFT-SOLUTIONS database to an external medium.
The correct configuration must be carefully considered when using backup tools.
Please note that databases cannot be backed up while in-use without proper backup tool
support.

In order to display your service appointments, as well as your custom marketing campaigns, you
need a suitably equipped workstation. The same system requirements as described in
Section 1.2 – Client apply.
The PC must be integrated within your network in order to display appointments. If a com-
puter is designated to be used for soft-welcome, it cannot be used as a workstation at the
same time.
Only one welcome show can be started per workstation. If you would like to show different shows on
different devices, a separate PC is required.
If you would like to use an alternative display device/TV for the presentation, we recommend the fol-
lowing hardware components:
▪ a suitable graphics card with a compatible connection to the desired display device/TV
▪ a display device/TV in a reasonable size
The display device/TV should be connected to the PC via a compatible connector. The distance
between the PC and the display device/TV should also not exceed five meters.
For presentations on widescreen displays, you need a graphics card that supports the resolution of
the display device/TV. If you have any questions, please contact your hardware supplier.
If you are using a terminal server (Windows Terminal Server/Citrix), soft-welcome will be installed
locally on the PC. The same minimum requirements as described above apply. The PC must also be
integrated within your network.
Using soft-welcome directly on the Terminal Server/Citrix will not be supported.

Please note that the installation and configuration of the telephony components must be ensured by
the customer prior to setting up the soft-communicator (e.g. installation and configuration of the TAPI
driver for the telephone system, etc.).
The soft-communicator can only use telephony functions which are also provided and supported by
the customer's TAPI driver. soft-nrg Development GmbH can verify in advance which functions are
available through the installed TAPI driver.
Possibility 1 – 3rd party driver on a server (Preferred)
A TAPI driver must be installed and fully configured on a central server with a connection to the PBX.
The driver must support at least Microsoft TAPI v2.0 Standard.
Possibility 2 – 1st party driver on the local workstation
A TAPI driver must be installed and fully configured on every workstation that has a connection to the
PBX. The driver must support at least Microsoft TAPI v2.0 Standard.
With this option, an additional SOFT-SOLUTIONS service will be installed on each workstation.
Server
In both cases, SOFT-SOLUTIONS services will need to be set up on a server. The workstations that
have SOFT-SOLUTIONS installed will communicate with the server in the network via the correspond-
ing service.
The SOFT-SOLUTIONS client requires a connection to the database in order to use messaging.
Sending e-mails via SOFT-SOLUTIONS requires an e-mail program to be installed and fully configured
on the local workstation.

The soft-messenger module can be used to send messages from SOFT-SOLUTIONS. This requires a
working internet connection from every workplace. The transmission is secured using the HTTPS
protocol. To access the soft-messenger portal, we recommend the latest version of Google Chrome
or Mozilla Firefox.
All messages are sent in the GSM 03.38 (7 bit) character encoding. With this encoding type, up to
160 characters can be transmitted. If a different character is found in the message, the application
encodes the entire message in Unicode UCS-2 (16 bit). With this up to 70 characters can be
transmitted.

A SOFT-SOLUTIONS service is used to establish a secure connection between the local
SOFT-SOLUTIONS database and the soft-net portal. Please also refer to the information in
Section 1.3 – Web Server.
To access the online help, Internet access is required from each workstation.
Please note that the following URLs and their subsequent pages may have to be configured in your
firewall and/or proxy server (whitelist/outgoing):
Exclude connections on

When using a proxy server, we recommend using a separate user for authentication.
