Our Level 2 Award in Fire Safety Principles allows candidates to develop their basic fire safety awareness. It is particularly useful for employees who are to have a designated responsibility for workplace fire safety, for
example as fire wardens or fire marshals, and provides the knowledge that will allow them to carry out duties relating to fire safety and emergency procedures.
This full day course includes:

The NEW Lower Thames Crossing – we need your views!
Highways England is seeking views on the route of a new road crossing of the Thames connecting Kent and Essex.
It is the most important transport infrastructure issue facing North Kent today. Getting the right route for the new crossing is
critical as it will shape the economic future of the area.
We need local businesses and residents to respond the consultation before it closes on Thursday 24th March.
Getting the go-ahead for the new Crossing is not a foregone conclusion. We are in competition with other parts of the country
for scarce resources. We must make our voice heard loud and clear with Government if we are to secure commitment of funds
for the crossing.
As the Thames Gateway Kent Partnership we urge you to respond. The Partnership, made up of senior business
and council leaders from across North Kent, works to promote sustainable economic growth in the area. You can find

Why is a new Crossing needed?
It will reduce congestion on the existing Dartford Crossing, improve journey times and the resilience of the strategic road
network, and unlock economic growth.
We’ve all experienced the almost daily problems on the existing Crossing. Designed for 135,000 vehicle crossings a day,
it is regularly operating at or over capacity, handling 50 million vehicles a year.
Over 300 times a year the Crossing is partially of fully closed due to a traffic incident and it can take three to five hours for
the roads to clear following a closure.
For North Kent businesses to be able to operate effectively, and to grow and prosper, it is imperative that a new Crossing
is provided quickly.
What is Highways England consulting on?
Full information about the consultation, including various supporting documents, can be found on Highways England's consultation website. These include a consultation booklet, as well as detailed technical documents.
Highways England is consulting on a number of options, but their preferred route would involve a dual carriageway bored
tunnel linking Essex near Tilbury with Kent to the east of Gravesend (route 3 on the map below). The tunnel and approaches
would connect in the south to M2 Junction 1 and in the north via a new road to a new junction on the M25 midway between
Junctions 29 and 30.
What is our view?
The Thames Gateway Kent Partnership has consistently argued the case for a new Lower Thames Crossing. Its route must
maximise the economic benefits for North Kent and minimise negative impacts, particularly on the natural environment.
The majority view of the Partnership is firmly in favour of a route east of Gravesend at Location C. However, many issues need
to be clarified including options to minimise the impact on communities and encroachment on environmentally sensitive sites in
Gravesham.
We are also emphasising the need for associated investment further east on the M2/A2 corridor to ensure resilience across the
whole route between the Channel Ports and the M25.
How to respond
You should respond by completing the survey questionnaire at this link: online survey.
Our message is simple: if you agree that a new Thames Crossing is needed, please respond to the consultation to
make sure your voice is heard. You do not need to complete the full questionnaire in order to submit a response, but please
ensure you answer question 5 (crossing location).
We are working with other bodies such as the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) and the Kent and Medway Economic Partnership (KMEP). SELEP has set up a dedicated website www.lowerthamescrossing.co.uk where you can find out more about the business issues raised in the consultation.

The Face Up to Flooding event, which was held at Eastchurch Village Hall
on Thursday 25th February, was a success at a number of levels.
This was the first time that Sheppey Environment Forum, had put on an event
to showcase the work being done, by various groups and organisations, in order to make this island a safer and better place to live in.
Feedback from the general public was very positive. Most people commented on the wide range of information available. One lady went on to say that some of the information was
“amazingly inspirational – a hopeful future for our island”. To quote from another who said “a fantastic wealth of information and resources available. So interesting talking to
all of the partners involved”
For people that missed this first event, there will be a second chance to see the various exhibits and talk to people expert in their field on Thursday 24
th March 2016 at Sheppey Hall in

Children & Adolescent Mental Health service –we want to hear from anyone who has used this
service in the past year. Over 200 people have already given us feedback and we are already hearing
about lots of additional issues including autism services. This is a follow up to work we did 18 months
ago. We want to hear if the service has improved since then. Sussex Partnership Trust staff are
distributing ‘packs’ to patients and families in Tunbridge Wells and Swale too. We are already picking
up lots of feedback about issues outside of CAMHS including autism services. Please encourage

End of Life Care – We have been hearing from people that their End of Life experience is not always what it should be. The project will involve working with organisations that provide End of Life services including hospitals and hospices. It will also involve talking to patients and families who are using or have used these services. Our Big Red Bus in back!
Many of you will have been involved in our Big Bus Tour last summer. For those of you who weren’t
involved, do join us in June as we travel round Kent talking to people about their experiences of health
and social care services. We’ll let you know in April the bus schedule so you can plan to join us and
hear directly from patients and service users.
Hospital Discharge –We are currently in the midst of project around Hospital discharge and the
experience of patients as they move through the ‘system’. We have already visited Darent Valley
Hospital and Gravesham Place to talk to patients. We will shortly be visiting the Community Hospitals
and Elm Court too. We are working closely with the CCG on this project and will be producing a joint
report featuring results from both our activities and the CCGs.
Swale Public Voice. Every month we focus on a different district to proactively reach out to
communities within that district. We research which seldom heard communities live in each district and
then visit them to gather feedback on local services. Swale was the focus for January. We met with
several homeless groups as well as Travellers community.
