BEASTS OF THE EAST: The Dodgers tonight begin a six-game homestand with the first of three games against the Washington Nationals, who own a 10.5-game lead in the NL East and the best record in the National League. Coming off a 4-3 road trip to St. Louis and Milwaukee, Los Angeles looks to stay hot against Washington, having won seven of its last eight and nine of 12 contests since the beginning of 2015. At Dodger Stadium, the Boys in Blue have won five consecutive games over the Nationals. The Dodgers will close out the homestand with a three-game weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds Friday-Sunday. At 21-8 (.724), the Dodgers are tied with Arizona for the best home record in the Major Leagues. Not to go unnoticed, the Nationals are 19-11 on the road, which is the second best mark away from home in the NL. Los Angeles has won four consecutive games at Chavez Ravine and 11 of 13 since May 8. The Dodgers are 12 games over .500 and their 35 wins are tied for the second most in the National League with Washington, behind only Colorado (36). Turner, who has been on the 10-day disabled list since May 19 with a strained left hamstring, is expected to be the designated hitter and get 3-4 at-bats this evening vs. Modesto. THE CHASE IS ON: Dodger infielder Chase Utley has been one of the Dodgers’ hottest hitters of late, batting .333 (24-for-72) with three doubles, three triples, three homers and 14 RBI in his last 24 games since May 9. In that span, Utley ranks among the NL leaders in batting average (T-7 th ), triples (2 nd ), on-base percentage (.424, 4 th ) and slugging percentage (.583, T-10 th ). BEST IN THE BIZ: The Dodgers continue to lead the Majors with a 3.20 team ERA and a 1.16 WHIP, while leading the NL in strikeouts (563) and opponents’ batting average (.229).
