Orioles Spring Training Game Interest OK golfers, how about a night at the ball-park as a social event? The Baltimore Orioles will play 4 night games in March that begin at 6:05 PM, three are on a Sun-day and one is on a Tuesday. The ticket price is $21. We will sit together in an area of our choosing… behind home plate, 1st base side or 3rd base side. The mini-mum block of tickets is for 20 people and must be purchased soon. Here’s what I need to know…. Are you interested in at-tending this event? If so, is your prefer-ence a Sunday or Tuesday game? You will not be held committed if you say you are interested and then can’t attend… I just need to find out if the SSGA should pursue making the arrangements. Send an email to me at tru7447@ hotmail.com by November 13th if you are interested in this event. Indicate if you prefer a Sunday or Tuesday evening. If there is sufficient interest, I will make the arrangements to make this happen.

Past Events Longboat Key On a warm, humid but thankfully breezy Sunday in October, 33 players enjoyed playing on Longboat Key golf course. A shamble format was played on the Blue Heron and White Egret courses at the Har-bourside Golf facility. Everyone who signed up - showed up !! Thank you, that made the day much more enjoyable for me, your Host! The group gathered for dinner after golf at The Old Salty Dog on the water front. The winner with the low-est score of the day was the team of Dale Wilcox, Beata Bogar, Cynthia Brock and Dianna Miller. The closest to the pin con-test winners were our president, Karen Ohnmacht, and Micky Bernard. Jim Mazza won the 50/50 drawing. This golf venue is a popular annual event so I hope to see you there again next year!

We welcomed a few new members to our chapter and were happy to see some Tampa Bay Chapter mem-bers join us. At the conclusion of golf, we gathered in a private room in the Club-house to brag about good shots or com-plain about bad ones and enjoy some food and a beverage. A prize of 1 round of golf for 2 at River Strand was given to each 1st place team player. They were Maria Her-rara-Brown, Kathleen Critchett (Tampa Bay Chapter), Craig Talbert and John Hughes. Charlene Emmett (Tampa Bay), Jim Faulkner (new Sarasota member) and Jill Johnston came in 2nd. The long-est drive contests were won by Linda Davis and Dave Courtright. The closest to the pin contest winners were Jill Johns-ton and Dave Courtright Barb Laneau walked away with a HUGE 50/50 bundle of $95 (sorry Andy) .

What the Great Putters Do ~Rick Smith, Golf Digest

So many golfers hear that they should chase the ball to the hole with the putterhead to accelerate the club through impact and keep the putt on line. But that thought is actually counterproductive to making putts. The only thing chasing the ball should be you, after it goes in. Following that advice can restrict the stroke, blocking the face from releasing naturally and pushing the putt off line. Often, grip pressure that is too tight accompanies this "chaser" stroke. Instead, you want very light pressure, like Jordan Spieth uses. This allows the face to close and move back to the inside of the line of putt after impact. That is a natural stroke with no manipulation. Nothing is contrived, and a closing face creates a smoother roll. There are a few good putters who shut the clubface going back and then open it through impact. They can get on hot streaks, but this technique is hard to rely on. To be clear: The opening and closing of the face is subtle. You'll hardly notice it if you're watching a good putter. But it's important. It doesn't matter if you have a pop stroke like Brandt Snedeker or a longer stroke like Ben Crenshaw. Let the putter swing natu-rally. And don't chase the ball.

Multi-Chapter Invitationals are about great memories, renewing acquaintances and meeting friends you never thought you had. We strive to hold events at venues that will create those memories. The 2018 Seine River Cruise Paris, France — September 9 — 18, 2018

We’ve selected Tauck as our river cruise company of choice. Tauck, a 92-year-old company that started provid-

ing tours to parts of America and Canada many people had never seen, has helped ASGA plan this trip with a promise our members will thoroughly enjoy from private tours of small and historic French towns along the Seine River to the beauty of the MS Swiss Sapphire ship itself, the professionalism of the

Tauck staff, to the highly acclaimed food that will be pre-pared for us each evening.

Having taken this itinerary as a site visit in October of last year, I can personally attest to the great “first class” value. ASGA has “special pricing.” We never pay what the public pays for our multi-chapter events, whether on the mainland or overseas. (We’re not allowed to actually tell you price difference, but if you go to the website and click on the COST tab, you’ll see for yourself.) Our itinerary is to visit the historic monuments in Rouen, the English Channel villages of Etretat and Honfleur, Jumieges Ab-bey, one of the great Benedictines of France, Chateau Gaillard, Claude Monet’s home and a lot more. At our halfway point on the cruise, we’ll visit the D-Day beaches of Normandy. Head to www.SinglesGolf.com/RiverCruise or review the video at www.SinglesGolf.com/RiverCruiseVideo.

Will You Serve on your Board

Next Year?

It’s an annual thing. Each chapter, whether you know it or not, is led by people, a/k/a volunteers, who take their time and make life nice for you. Each chapter has bylaws (www.SinglesGolf.com/bylaws), and is required to elect a new chapter president each year and committee chair positions (golf, social, membership and communications). Other positions are appointed, e.g. secretary and treasurer. After everything’s in place, your chapter should look like this:

www.SinglesGolf.com/OrganizationalChart

These people comprise your Board of Directors who is ulti-mately responsible for making sure things run right to assure more fun, fellowship and fairways. Your chapter’s bylaws require you to 1) set-up a Nomination’s Committee to seek individuals to serve in the various commit-tees, 2) have an election in October for a new chapter president and 3) have an election in November for the four (4) committee heads (golf, social, membership and communications). All new officers take office on January 1. If you’re interested in serving on the Board of your chapter, please don’t hesitate to speak up and become part of the deci-sion-making process. Contact your current leaders. As always, your service to your chapter is much appreciated. Terms are for one year only but it can be a life changing event in your life. Become a leader or support your newly elected chapter leaders. A job description for each position can be located at the following links:

www.SinglesGolf.com/president www.SinglesGolf.com/golf www.SinglesGolf.com/membership www.SinglesGolf.com/social www.SinglesGolf.com/communication

It’s been said many times that the Number One job of a chapter president is to delegate to each of the four commit-tee chairs. If a president “does it all,” next year, then there’s a good chance no one will want to serve in that position the follow-ing year. Now is the time to start thinking about next year. Now is the time for all good members to come to the aid of their chap-ter. Seriously, folks, lend a hand and step up to the plate!
