VOL 21 ISSUE 21, 23 OCTOBER 2019 Thank you for teachers ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.’ — Proverbs 22:6 This Friday, 25 October is World Teachers Day. Celebrated in over 100 countries, World Teachers Day acknowledges the efforts of teachers in an increasingly complex and technological society. It is a day on which students, parents and community members can demonstrate their appreciation for the contributions that teachers have made to their community. It provides a good opportunity for us to stop and be thankful for the teachers in our lives and reflect on the impact they have had. Some teachers fill us with confidence, some help us find what we are passionate about, some build our resilience and some challenge us. We thank God for those that have been called to teach and hope that He continues to guide them on their journey. Be with all teachers this week, and always and help them to continue their days with the confidence and passion needed to shape our future generation. From the PrincipalWORLD TEACHERS’ DAY OCTOBER 25Friday is World Teachers Day (Australia), where teachers throughout Australia are celebrated. To our teachers, I am incredibly grateful to work with a team of teachers who are dedicated to their students, to the continual improvement of teaching and learning, and to the educational profession. Thank you also to all staff members at St Paul who work every day towards the smooth running and success of our school.

Please don’t hesitate to share your appreciation of a teacher this week, or any day of the year!

CLASS ALLOCATIONS 2020Later in Term Four, we be creating class lists for 2020. If you have any significant child needs that you believe should be considered during the class allocation process for next year, please email Deputy Principal, Jason Fay at [email protected]. Please be aware that this is a complicated process which will take into account educationally, medically or socially relevant information. Therefore, we cannot take parent or student requests simply based on personal preference for teachers. As always, we take seriously the trust you place in us as educators to make the best decisions we possibly can for all students.

PARENT INFORMATION SESSION 7 NOVEMBERI would like to invite all parents of the St Paul community to join us for an information session on Thursday 7 November, starting at 6:30pm. We will welcome Michael Edgecomb, from Doing Life Together to speak to families about the important work that our senior students have been doing in preparation for the wellbeing of students in future years at St Paul. Jason Fay has made mention in this edition of Inspire of a Year 6 project this year focusing on the ‘House’ system at St Paul.

FAREWELL PASTOR GREGThis week will be Pastor Greg’s final worship service in Chapel. Pastor Greg has accepted a call (a request to come and serve) to St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Indooroopilly, Queensland. Our students presented some special farewell cards to Pastor Greg this morning as said goodbye to him as a school. Pastor Greg’s final worship service with the church congregation will be on Sunday, 3 November. We pray for God’s blessing on Pastor Greg during his move to Queensland and thank God for his time working with us at St Paul.

Leila Mattner|Principal

From the Deputy PrincipalLast week, our Year 6 class was lucky enough to spend a couple of hours with Michael Edgecomb talking about wellbeing. Michael, a parent of the school, is an in demand consultant in this area and works with school and other organisations with a particular focus on children and young people and helping them reach their full potential in life.

Michael discussed a range of topics with the Year 6 students as they continue their yearlong project looking at how to build a greater sense of wellbeing and belonging for all students at St Paul. This has particularly focussed on the untapped potential of the ‘House’ system at St Paul and community building. Michael shared some of his experience with the class regarding authentic relationships and what helps people to feel truly valued and known. We thank Michael for his time and insight.

Recently, the Year 6s have started to make some recommendations regarding their work and these will be shared with the community soon. If you are interested in finding out more, or have any questions, please send me an email at [email protected]

Church NewsSUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER - CELEBRATION WORSHIP AND EXPERIENCE EVENT – ‘ADVENT EXPERIENCE’Our last Celebration Worship Event for the year is on Sunday 17 November 2019 at 10:00am. Thank you to those families who have returned the permission slip for their child/children to participate in the service. It is not too late if your child is keen to be involved! Spare permission forms are at the front office.

Straight after the service, we will have a fun event in the hall called our Experience Advent Event.

Advent is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas (or sometimes from the 1st December to Christmas Day!). Advent means ‘Coming’ in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas. We would love to celebrate this special time in our church calendar with you and your family. For more information please contact Louise Venning, our School Ministry Worker [email protected]

BREAD TAGS FOR WHEELCHAIRSIn conjunction with 107.9 Life, school and church are collecting bread bag tags. These are sold to a South Australian company in Robe called Transmutation. The company recycles the tags and the proceeds then go towards buying wheelchairs for the disabled in South Africa. Instead of throwing them away, we can recycle them and we can all do our bit for the environment, reduce landfill and help others. Please place your tags in the jar at the Front Office. Thanks for your help.
