and places to visit with your dogs.
Because fall is quickly ap-proaching, here’s a great fall dog treat you can make at home. It’s very nutritious and safe and a super tasty treat for your dog to enjoy after a long walk. PUMPKIN APPLE DOG TREATS Ingredients • 4 - 4.5 cups oatmeal, plus additional • 1 medium apple • 1 egg • 1 CUP canned pumpkin Instructions • Preheat oven to 400 de-grees F. • Grind the oatmeal down in a food processor or
blender. Transfer to mixing bowl. • Core apple, being sure to remove all of the seeds. Grate apple, and add to bowl with oatmeal. • Add egg and canned pumpkin to bowl and mix well to combine. The mix-ture will be thick and slightly sticky. • On a surface dusted with oatmeal (ground or not, your choice) roll the dough out to approximately 1/2" thick. Use a doggy bone cookie cutter to cut dough into shapes, and transfer to a lined baking sheet. • Bake for approximately 12-15 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Allow to cool to room temperature, then store in an airtight container for up to a week.
Pet Corner
As the heat of summer gets closer to an end, more and more of us will be looking for fun, family activities to participate in outdoors. Dogs are part of our family and there are many great places to take your four-legged family members. Here in the neighborhood, nice long walks along the trails and lake are wonder-ful. But did you know that Fort Worth, Lake Worth, and Saginaw all have some great dog parks where you can take your pets to hang out and enjoy the day? In fact, several local restaurants permit dogs and so do many of the area hotels. To know more, visit www.bringfido.com and type in any city to know more about local activities

Just outside the Stockyards, night after night, you can see a line as big as Texas outside of Joe T. Garcia’s. In fact, even in the heat of the summer, folks line up and sip margaritas as they wait for a table at one of Fort Worth’s most iconic restaurants. Joe T. Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant was established on July 4, 1935 by Mr. and Mrs. Joe T. Gar-cia. At the time, the tiny restaurant could only seat 16 people. Soon, word spread about this homey Tex Mex restaurant and by the 1970’s, it was one of the most popular restaurants in the DFW area. Today it continues to thrive. With a seating capacity of more than 1,400, the line to
cash (if you forget, they have ATM’s on site) and you will likely have to wait a while. There are only two items on the dinner menu- enchiladas or fajitas. Go hungry and ready to enjoy yourself.
