CHAPEL MISSION PROJECT – Hearts for Jesus (January – March) ABAN - ABAN is a non-profit dedicated to empowering young mothers in

Ghana by selling unique, handmade products from recycled materials

This year the Hearts for Jesus campaign will go to ABAN to help young mothers in Ghana. Ban Against Neglect (ABAN), Wheat Ridge Ministries’ newest INSPIRE project, is bringing healing and hope for a brighter future to young women and their babies living on the streets of Accra, Ghana. Bake Sale – Thursday, February 26th Our Student Council will sponsor a Bake Sale on Thursday, February 26th. Items will be sold for 50¢ per bag before school that day. Proceeds from the Bake Sale will go toward ABAN. Items Donated for Bake Sale from 5th-8th Grade

• Bring to school on Wednesday, February 25th • No peanuts or treenuts • No cake slices, forsting/icing • Package in “right size” clear sandwich bag or ziploc bag (about 2 cookies per bag or 1 large item per bag) • Class that brings in most items earns Jeans for a Week for their class and lower grade partner

NO CHIPPEWA VALLEY BUSSES – February 18th - 20th Chippewa Valley doesn’t have school the week of February 16th – 20th so there will be no bussing through Chippewa Valley that week. Please make alternate transportation arrangements for your child(ren) that week.

LENT WORSHIP – Wednesdays – February 18, 25, March 4, 11, 18, 25 Immanuel Lutheran Church offers two opportunities to worship during Lent on Wednesdays. The schedule for each of the six Wednesday’s is 4 pm worship, 5 pm dinner in the gym, and worship once again at 6:30 pm. Choirs Singing for Lent Services

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT FOR 2015 – 2016 Registration for Kindergarten for 2015-2016 is underway. Registration materials and a Welcome Folder are available in the school office. Stop by, call, or email us if you would like us to send the materials home with your child or sibling. Please turn in completed forms to the school office. RE-ENROLLMENT FOR 2015-2016 - $325 Referral Discount Share with your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. why you value the education your child receives at Immanuel Lutheran School. Our K-8 Immanuel families will receive a $325 discount on your child’s tuition for the 2015-2016 school year if a new family enrolls their child(ren) in K-8 in 2015-2016 and names you as a referral.

Re-enrollment for the 2015-2016 – Re-enrollment packets were sent home along with your child’s 2nd Quarter report cards on February 6th. We ask that you return them by March 6th as that helps us make preparations for the upcoming year. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Neumeyer.

PRESCHOOL RE-ENROLLMENT FOR 2015-2016 Preschool registration information for the 2015-2016 school year were sent out the last week of January. Priority will be given to returning students, returning families, and member families. In order to receive priority registration, please submit your application for enrollment according to the following schedule:

• February 10-20: current 3 year old, Praise and Play, and Tiny Treasures students have priority to register for any preschool class.

• February 23-27: members and returning Preschool – 8th grade families have priority to register for any preschool class.

• March 2: registration is open to the community.

BOX TOPS CONTEST – Will your class win? Bring in as many box tops as you can find between February 9th and February 27th. Put them in your classroom folder, which will be collected and tallied weekly. Keep an eye on the progress poster near the office to see which class is in the lead!

The winning class will get a GREAT Prize, so make sure YOUR class wins! Don’t forget, you can collect Box Tops from grandmas, neighbors, your parents’ coworkers, or anyone! ART AWARDS – Scholastic Art Awards February 9th Congratulations to 3 of our students whose art work was recognized at the Scholastic Art Award event on Monday, February 9th at the Macomb Center for the Performing arts. NEXT BAGEL DAY – Tuesday, March 10th Our next Student Council Bagel Sale will be on Tuesday, March 10th. The week before each Bagel Day, our teachers will take orders from students. The cost is $1 for a bagel and $0.50 for cream cheese. Two types of bagels will be offered (plain or chocolate chip) as well as two types of cream

cheese (plain or strawberry). Orders will be charged to each student’s hot lunch account. Student Council members will arrive early on Bagel Days to sort and deliver the orders.

SPRING MUSICAL Grades 1-4 This year’s spring musical, Under God’s Sea in 3D, fits perfectly with our theme, Daily Diving Deeper into God’s Word. BABYSITTING CLASS Monday, March 9, 2015 and Tuesday, March 10, 2015 Class Time: 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. OBJECTIVES: This is a workshop for boys and girls age 10 and older to learn to be safe babysitters. A health educator covers first aid and safety, infant and child CPR (with mannequin practice), choking, behavior management, illness, appropriate activities for different ages, the “business” of babysitting, crime safety, fire safety and more. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory to receive the certificate.

Basketball Clinic for 1st – 2nd Grade March (see schedule below)

Tim Starkey, one of our Immanuel basketball coaches, along with other volunteers will be hosting a five session basketball clinic for 1st and 2nd grade girls and boys here at Immanuel. The clinic provides an opportunity for children to learn and practice fundamental basketball skills and learn the rules of the game. The clinic emphasizes the importance of good sportsmanship while teaching fundamental basketball skills such as dribbling, shooting, defense, passing, rebounding, and game knowledge.

WHO CAN ATTEND? This basketball clinic is for girls and boys in 1st and 2nd grade.

WHAT TO EXPECT The clinic will stress skills in dribbling, passing, shooting, ball handling, defense, rebounding, teamwork, strategy, and game playing. The clinic will provide basic instruction for the novice player, as well as enhance the skills of students who are already playing competitively. These clinics are co-ed.
