Like KDM PTO!

Did you hear? The generosity of our KDM community is one of the aspects of our school that makes it so special. We are fortunate to be able to help support our school with valuable resources not funded by the school district. Last month, the PTO was able to purchase an upgraded sound system and new smart TV in the gymnasium. If you were at the 4th Grade Concert & Coyote Choir Performance you may have noticed a difference in the sound quality. This is just one of the benefits of our investment. Mr. Ellis is utilizing the new smart TV in a number of exciting ways during Physical Education classes. Students are able to review skills in real time and make adjustments as necessary to ensure proper form. The TV is a visual aid that supports the units of study in class and also allows for a safer environment, free of the cords and wires that came along with the projector cart. One of the other exciting features is that students can take virtual field trips such as traveling through the heart as a blood cell. We are so excited to be able to support our teachers in making KDM the best place to learn and grow! Thank you to all our generous families for making this possible!

Heritage Night KD Markley will celebrate its annual Heritage Night on Wednesday, February 19th at 6:30 pm. This night is designed to be a colorful international bazaar where children can showcase national dress, food, flags, pictures, songs, dances, artifacts etc. from their home country and we can celebrate the diversity of students and cultures represented in our school. If you'd like to be a part of this popular KDM event and host an informational table, or have your child/ren perform, please fill out the form online here or use the form below and scan and email it to [email protected], or send it to school with your child and it will be routed to the main office.

We need Box Tops!

Please continue to submit your box tops and use the Box Tops app (see sidebar). The PTO relies on the funds raised from this program and we are currently at only 10% of our annual goal. Clipped box tops can be sent in with students.

Girls on the Run/Stride - We need Volunteers!

Girls on the Run and Stride have been popular Spring programs for several years at KDM. We do not have any volunteers to run these programs this year. Without volunteers, we will not be able to offer either program this Spring. These programs are run through the YMCA which provides training (in nearby West Chester) for coaches, materials, and a fun-filled 5K at the end of the season. What is Girls on the Run? The 10-week Girls on the Run after-school program is designed to inspire girls, in grades 3 through 8, of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength. Lessons emphasize the important connection between physical and emotional health. At the end of the program, girls participate in a 5K, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment, setting a confident and goal-oriented mindset into motion. Mark your calendar for our spring season. Registration begins February 10, 2020. We are currently seeking coaches and team sites for our upcoming season. Contact us for more information. To learn more about getting involved as a volunteer, CLICK HERE. Early Bird Registration: February 10 - March 8 Online registration will open at 6 am on February 10 Late Registration ($10 increase): March 9 - March 20 Season Practices: March 9 - May 29 End of Season 5K: May 30 What is Stride? STRIDE is a fun fitness and running program for boys in grades 3 through 8. Boys have the chance to share their thoughts and opinions about various life topics in a safe, encouraging environment that helps them develop character while building their running endurance to complete a 5K.

You're Invited... Coffee with the Superintendent

Parents district-wide are invited to attend a casual conversation with Superintendent Regina Speaker Palubinsky on Wed., Jan 22nd @ 9:30. Hosted by the Parent Key Communicator group, the coffee is an opportunity for parents to meet their school's PKCs and to engage in conversation around a featured topic. For more information please click here.

Parent Key Communicator Needed The Parent Key Communicator group was created to increase two-way communication between district office, the schools, and the parent community. The group also works to identify areas that need further clarification so that common understanding is possible, and builds bridges between schools by providing parents with a forum where connections can be made. Jennifer Blake, Director of Communications and Outreach, facilitates the group. District Superintendent Regina Speaker Palubinsky and a School Board representative attend the meetings. KDM currently has two Parent Key Communicators, and we are looking for a third. The volunteers who serve on the key communicators network create a link between parents and the district. Although the parent key communicators may not always have immediate answers to all the questions raised by other parents, these volunteers strengthen the line of communication for parents who seek information. The group will also help the district to better understand parent concerns. If you are interested in volunteering as a parent key communicator, please email [email protected] or [email protected].
