Middle School student projects take home medals at 2016 Project Citizen Showcase District 622 Middle School teams won the Project Citizen State Competition at the Minnesota Capitol on May 11, edging out several other schools in the largest Project Citizen competition ever.

Jemima Cooke, Sophie Illi, and Rachel Zierdt, eighth graders from Maplewood Middle School, and seventh-grader Sophie Prock from Skyview tied for top honors for best presentation and discussion. Tartan and John Glenn students participate in Smoke-Free Generation’s Day at the Capital The SADD group at Tartan and members of the Support our School (SOS) group at John Glenn participated in Minnesotans for a Smoke-Free Generation's Day at the Capitol on May 3, 2016. They spoke with Sen. Charles Wiger and Sen. Susan Kent and left information for representatives who weren't available to visit. Their morning was spent receiving training about issues the coalition works on. Then they talked to the senators about raising the legal age to purchase tobacco to 21, keeping tobacco taxes high so it's not giving a break to the tobacco industry and how mentholated products are used to recruit youth to start smoking. Tartan High SADD students included Lexi Bacon, Kira Rivers, Cooper Felipe, Elisabeth Banjo, Ryan Lenard, Sheyla Morales, Ashlie Richie, Lizzy Wortman and Brianna Boaz.
