The Bellmead Chamber of Com-merce has named Cheryl Morgan as the new office manager.

Morgan is looking forward to working with members and recruit-ing new members to the Chamber.

“I love the excitement of the new adventure I am facing with the Chamber and getting to know all of the new people. I am a helper by nature and look forward to making things special here,” said Morgan.

She worked at McLennan Com-munity College in the Information Systems and Services Department as their Help Desk Specialist.

“My primary educational back-ground was in office computer tech-

Greetings Bellmead Citizens,

Bellmead area is booming, too! I often share some great news about what is going on inside Bellmead, but this month I thought I would share some of the wonderful news going on just outside of our city limits that will have a positive impact on our citizens inside the city limits.

Let’s Gel, Inc., an Austin-based com-p a n y, a n n o u n c e s i t has acqu i red a 64,000-square-foot manufacturing facility location along Preci-sion Drive in Waco. Let’s Gel’s capital in-vestment of $3.5 mil-lion includes building purchase and improve-ments as well as in-vestments in machin-ery and equipment. The company will cre-ate 35 jobs during a three-year period.

Kingsdown, Inc., the nation’s largest inde-pendent and employ-ee-owned mattress manufacturer, has en-tered into a long-term lease agreement for the former U.S. Postal Service regional sort-ing center on Imperial Drive. The company is investing $2 million in the 100,000-square-foot facility to convert it into a state-of-the-art sleep products manu-facturing and distribu-tion center. The new plant will create 50 new local jobs. Hiring at the

Bellmead updateWaco plant is expected to begin immediately, and the company plans to start manufacturing by Jan. 19, 2015.

Finally, Hawthorne, Cali f .-based Space Exploration Technolo-gies Corp. (Space X) has plans to spend $46 million on an expan-sion that would cre-ate 300 new full-time jobs. The company recently expanded its lease from 922 acres to 4,280 acres. All of this means additional jobs available to our citizens and that much more outside money coming into our local economy. The future of Bellmead is bright.

Our last regular City Council meeting for 2014 was Dec. 9 with a short agenda. As nor-mal, we began with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to our nation’s flag. A public comment time and a time for reports was held. The prior meeting minutes were approved and the regular agenda went as follows:

• We reviewed and approved the City’s In-vestment Report for the quarter ending Sept. 30, 2014. We also ap-proved a new resolution adopting the Invest-ment Policy moving forward.

• We renewed our agreement with Ameri-can Bank to continue serving as the bank depository for the city. This agreement will last until the end of 2018.

American Bank is the only bank that has filled this role for the city, and we are pleased to continue our relation-ship with them. They continue to be very generous with us and provide many benefits that other banks would not match.

• We authorized sev-eral items for our Police Department. These in-clude:

(1) approving a reso-lution for an application for a TxDOT grant to provide assistance with a DWI/Impaired drivers program;

(2) the purchase of 21 computer tablets (Mobile Data Termi-nals or MDT’s) with software to assist law enforcement by con-necting them with rel-evant data. A grant in the amount of $54,000 will pay for most of this cost; and

(3) approval to re-new the Leads Online program that allows for the advanced search of partial data. This as-sists when only part of a license plate or name is known.

Bellmead lions Club seeks new members The Bellmead Lions Club is seeking new members. The club was

chartered in 1952 to meet the Lions objectives and code of ethics. The objectives are to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world; to promote the principles of good government and good citizenship; to take an active interest in the civic, culture, social and moral welfare of the commmunity; to unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding; to provide a fo-rum for open discussion of all matters of public interest; provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; to encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward; and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors. Bellmead City Calendar

The Bellmead Police Department started its annual toy drive, Adopt a Child for Christmas, Dec. 8.

The concept was to gather a list of children who were in need of Christmas gifts. The names are provided each year from the school counselors. This year’s list consisted of 147 children ranging from infants to age 16.

“This is everything we could have hoped for, and I would like to thank the community,” said Bellmead Po-lice Chief Lydia Alvarado.

“The citizens, businesses and police department provided many smiles, lots of laughter and the oc-casional tears of joy. We were only able to achieve this by working to-

gether to fulfill many children’s hope to receive a gift this Christmas.”

Through careful planning and organization the police department was able to hand deliver approxi-mately 90 percent of the gifts.

The entire department considers it an honor to experience this posi-tive connection with the community.

A special thanks to Cable & Wire-less Solutions of Waco for providing the department with not only their amazing donation but with transpor-tation that allowed officers to deliver the enormous amount of gifts.

The exhibit features more than 20 works of art by the 2007 State of Texas Artist. Herring is a master at capturing the American West.
