Whilerecognizing that the Graham School’s roots go back to the establishment of University Extension 125years ago, this event will also be forward-looking in focus, imagining the role of lifelong learning in theevolution of the 21st century university. In celebration of the 125th anniversary of theUniversity in 2015 and the 20th anniversary ofthe Center for the Study of Gender and Sexualityin 2016, the CSGS, Office of the President, andUniversity of Chicago Press host Hanna HolbornGray, president emerita of the University andHarry Pratt Judson Distinguished ServiceProfessor Emerita in History, to discuss thereissue of More than Lore: Reminiscences ofMarion Talbot, originally published in 1936, forwhich Gray has written a new foreword. Talbotwas the dean of women at the University from1895 to 1925 and cofounder of what wouldbecome the American Association of UniversityWomen. More than Lore is a unique firsthandaccount of the early days of the University and afascinating look at life as an early 20thcenturycollege woman, when simply to be a woman wasto be a pioneer and the foundations of themodern undergraduate experience were beingestablished. The Graham School of Continuing Liberal andProfessional Studies will host special events tocelebrate UChicago’s dedication to lifelong
learning since our founding in 1890. While
recognizing that our roots go back to the
establishment of University Extension 125 years
ago, these events will also be forward-looking in
focus, imagining the role of lifelong learning in the
evolution of the 21st century university. Special
attention will be paid to extending the University’s
reach, bridging the educational experience for
broader audiences, and continuing to support the
tradition of rigorous academic inquiry. RSVP.

Postcard History of the
University of Chicago

Featuring over two hundred postcards in a variety
of formats from the 1890s to now, Greetings from
the Midway: A Postcard History of the University
of Chicago traces the past 125 years of campus
architecture, programming, and culture. Neil
Harris, Preston and Sterling Morton Professor
Emeritus in History and Art History, will deliver a
lecture entitled “Visualizing, Recalling, and
Marketing the University of Chicago: The Early
Years” at the opening reception, followed by an
exhibition tour. Learn more.

the critical moments, people, and ideas that have
shaped 125 years of social sciences at

University and Affiliated Laboratories will host a
program featuring panel discussions relating to
the history and future of these collaborations,
including current scientific partnerships and
