Brazil 2012 statistics Characterized by large and well-developed agricultural, mining,

manufacturing, and service sectors, Brazil's economy outweighs that of all other South American countries, and Brazil is expanding its presence

in world markets.

2nd largest economy of the BRIC countries Brazil's high interest rates make it an attractive

destination for foreign investors. In 2011, Brazil overtook the United Kingdom

as the World's 7th largest economy in terms of GDP.

The Article: The fifth-largest country in the world, with GDP per head that is greater

than either India or China, Brazil increased its inflow of foreign direct investment by 87pc to $48bn (£30bn) in 2010 alone, putting the nation fifth in the world rankings of capital inflows

With the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics seeing proposed infrastructure investments of $90bn and $30bn respectively, The Economist devoted an issue to the nation’s boom under the cover headline of “Getting it Together Again”.

Not surprisingly, growth-starved Britain wants to get in on the act. Britain is Europe’s third-largest overseas investor in Brazil, behind Germany and the Netherlands, and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) has recently produced two reports aimed at stimulating investment in Brazil.

MINHA CASA MINHA VIDA (MY HOUSE MY LIFE)

Brazil is currently experiencing a huge housing deficit which is estimated to be between 7 million and 10 million.

. Launched in 2009, it committed to building 1 million homes for low-mid

income families by 2011. The program is very well subscribed and the challenge is now to

keep up the supply with the demand. As an example there are

over 65,000 people on the waiting list in the city of Joao Pessoa. The government announced in March 2010 that

they would increase investment totalling US$526 billion for the period of 2011 - 2014 and another US$346 beyond the World Cup year

What does this mean to us? We build houses to government spec. The houses are then sold to poorer

families, with at least one minimum salary. The government gives them their deposit

of 17% and then takes out their mortgage for them. They pay the government back each month.

In other words, the government buys our houses!
