The table below compares the performance of two configurations of the Dell Precision T1650 workstation to our best performing standard desktop, the OptiPlex 9010. The benchmark we used was SPECviewperf ® 11 which mimics real world scenarios of a user running various workstation class applications. For this discussion we’re focusing on the Autodesk ® Maya ® , PTC ® Pro|ENGINEER ® and Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks ® datasets. Increase Your Productivity up to 972% with the Dell Precision T1650 Based on the above results, the Dell Precision T1650 entry-level workstation with the NVIDIA Quadro 600 (Configuration A) performed up to 708% (7x) faster and the T1650 with the NVIDIA Quadro 2000 (Configuration B) performed up to 972% (9.7x) faster than the standard desktop, the Dell OptiPlex 9010. This means project time related to system performance can be reduced by up to 88% with configuration A and by as much as 91% with configuration B. As an example, if we assume that an average employee using Pro|ENGINEER earns $37.50 per hour and spends 50% of their time doing performance-intensive work on their computer, the $1240-$1675 difference in upfront cost can be recouped in as little as 76-100 hours; roughly 2 to 2.5 weeks. If we extrapolate this further, a hypothetical company with a team of engineers using Pro|ENGINEER, paid $37.50 per hour and using standard desktops, will spend $75000 to accomplish a project that requires 2000 hours of intense compute performance to complete. If this company switches to Dell Precision T1650 workstations they could potentially complete the same job in only 200 hours effectively reducing the cost of the job to $7500 dollars, theoretically saving $67500.

Viewed another way, the below chart compares the theoretical amount of time it takes to accomplish a given project. With all three of our test applications the amount of time it takes to complete a project is significantly lower when using a Dell Precision workstation when compared to a standard Dell desktop.

It’s also important to note that there are additional benefits to using Dell Precision workstations. All Dell Precision workstations are Independent Software Vendor (ISV) certified for use with many professional grade applications. In addition, the T1650 comes with additional optional features: Error Correcting Code (ECC) memory which can automatically correct for single bit memory errors providing a more stable platform and Intel Xeon processors which are built for all day everyday reliability and provide faster processing.

For the minimal additional cost of a Dell Precision T1650 entry-level workstation can help increase your productivity, which means faster project completion, increased project iterations and decreased overtime providing a great return on your investment.
