Ladd Teacher Dru Heggen Truly Going the Extra Mile to Do

Great things for the Ladd Children/School Foundaon(Borrowed from the LaSalle News Tribunethanks News Trib!)

Ladd teacher Dru Heggen loves to run. She also loves to teach and work withchildren. And now Heggen has the opportunity to do both things at once. Hegge

who has taught at Ladd Community Consolidated School for the past 37 years

recently ran in the New York City Marathon. Marathon organizers suggested

runners do so to benet a charity. Heggen decided to run and raise funds for the

Ladd School Foundaon, which benets all students at the school. Heggen began

her running career at the age of 35 with the Chicago City Marathon. Thirty years

later, Heggen is sll running. At the age of 65, she wants to show students you ca

do anything you want, and age is only a maer of ones mind. Those wishing to

donate to the Ladd Foundaon via Heggens mission should mail a check to the

Ladd Grade School at 232 E. Cleveland St., Ladd, IL 61329. Heggen said the Ladd

Foundaon is near and dear to her heart, since it oers addional opportunies t

children. It means ... we can request things (for the students) that we might not

be able to get normally, Heggen said.

Dalzell Folks Always Doing Great Things!

aithful Up Ravioli Alley reader Carlo Olivero kindly submied the following summary of this years Great eorts

Dalzell: For those people who read Up Ravioli Alley and would like to see Good people doing Great things,

please come and visit the St Thomas More church hall on monday and

wednesday from 7:00 A.M. to approximately noon and watch good peoples

who come to make tortellinis, one tortellini at a me, to support our wo

derful church. These volunteers come from all over the area to give-up the

me and talent to twist and fold these Great tortellinis. This work is actuaan art form that they have perfected and it is a talent we are grateful they

have. We have volunteers not only from Dalzell, but also fromTroy Grove,

Dimmick, Cherry, LaSalle and even some from DePue. We are blest with

many good people doing Great things for our church! Last year we made

over a TON of tortellinis and we are in the process of trying to duplicate

what was done last year. For those who would like to try our tortellinis, we

sk you to call Mary Jean Goodrick at 815 664 4615. Our tortellini ingredients are cooked and made into tortellini

nd sold for $6.00 a pound---dried weight, never frozen before they are sold. Also, I would like to bring back mem

ries of our own CHARLIE the barber, who was like JOHN the barber in Cherry. Charlie was a great guy who liv

ear our baseball diamond in Dalzell and raised beauful chickens along with cung hair. I never really had Charl

he barber cut my hair because my father cut my hair with a hand clipper that would pull out some of the hair at

he same me. Aer your haircut you looked like you had a bowl placed on your head and the kids in school would

augh at you! Later on when I grew older and wanted to look more presentable to the girls, so I went to Yugo Yao

who lived in Dalzell who also cut hair. More recently, many in town went to his son Ron Yaoni to have their hair

ut. Dalzell is a great town with good people doing Great things in many endeavors!
