We’ve heard of Harriet Tubman and Clara Barton,

history books. These more
obscure women each did
something noteworthy during
the Civil War.
Millie Henley of Historical Con-
nections will wear 1860’s attire as she shares fasci-

MOBILE LIBRARY SCHEDULE
Our libraries are among the last, if only, public places
where a person can go to linger, relax, use, enjoy,
explore, or just escape daily demands for a while and
take refuge – all for free, no questions asked.
Don’t even need a library card.
Our libraries aren’t just about checking out books. They
have wisely evolved as places to go and be and do.
When was the last time that you put together a jigsaw
puzzle? Pretty daunting, time-consuming and it
consumes the dining room table for too long. But at the
library there’s usually a puzzle-in-progress that you can
puzzle over for a while. There are board games to play.
Wander over to the periodicals – that stuffy old name for
magazines and newspapers. What a selection, just
begging to be paged through! If The New Yorker or The
Nation are too-heavy reading, right next to them is MAD
magazine. Seriously. When was the last time you
laughed your way through an issue of MAD?
So escape the insanity of daily reality and enjoy your
library, where you can sink into a cushy chair and ask
yourself, “What, me worry?”
(This plug is written and approved by The Friends of the
Library. Pick up a Friends brochure at the circulation
desk and join for as little as $5.)
