The year 2015 is a milestone for the University of Newcastle, celebrating its 50 years of achievement. As the President of the 2015 Council of the Hong Kong Alumni Chapter, I am very delighted to be part of this celebration and to have produced, along with other Council Members, this very special publication. It focuses mainly on the events held in 2015 in commemoration of the golden jubilee anniversary of UON.

A newsletter, entitled the Seahorse, was published in 2003 by the then Council of the Hong Kong Alumni Chapter. It was meant, I believe, to have had more volumes to follow however that never happened. This yearbook is therefore the second official publication of the UON Hong Kong Alumni Chapter and it is hoped that it is not the last one.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the Publication Committee comprising Dr Ben Fung, Dr Andy Mak and Mr Stephen Lam, which has been specially formed to produce this commemorative yearbook to celebrate of the 50 years of remarkable achievements of UON.

Dr Aaron Chiang UON Hong Kong Alumni President

Fifty years is a milestone birthday and a time for celebration and reflection. It is an opportunity for old friends to catch up and reminisce, and a chance to gather through events both in Newcastle and abroad.

The University of Newcastle has seen a number of highlight events in 2015, including our inaugural Alumni Homecoming where we warmly welcomed graduates from near and far back to campus to reconnect.

The Homecoming along with many more events, both hosted by UON and the Hong Kong Alumni Chapter, are featured in this commemorative yearbook. The following pages tell a story

of a university that has grown to a network of 135,000 alumni in 120 countries.

It has been my pleasure to be involved in the great work the Hong Kong Alumni Chapter has done across our 50th anniversary year and I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for the chapter.
