Oracle UOM Conversion “Template”

The following is the closest I could get to the requested template for UOM conversions. Here are three scenarios that should give you a good start at any conversion you have; the first covers a single box to bottle conversion, the second covers a multiple UOM class conversion and the third covers a conversion across classes.

The steps that are common between the three should be your starting point for all conversions you need to set up.

1) Identify the primary UOM of your item2) List all the UOMs you will need3) Find which UOM Class(es) hold the UOMs you are working with4) Determine the Base UOM for the UOM Class5) Write out the conversions you are working with, with the base UOM on the right

Example; if item is the base UOM, write 1 box = 4 items. This is the way it appears in the Oracle conversion screen (see page 6)

6) Enter your UOM conversions7) Test the conversions

Scenario 1: You need to set up Item 16571. It comes in bottles, four bottles to a box.

How do we set this up?

First, find out what the primary UOM is for the Item.

2

Page 3: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Next, use the Units of Measure screen to find out which classes hold the UOMs you are working with.

Simply scroll down the list of values screen – the classes are listed there – you do not have to requery each UOM.

Bottle and Box are both in the Item class. This is good because it means you do not have to set up a conversion across classes.

3

Page 4: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Next, find out what the base UOM is for the Item class.

The base UOM for the Item class is ‘Item’.

So, what we ultimately want is…

1 Bottle = 1 Item and

1 Box = 4 Bottles.

4

Page 5: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Next, you can set up the conversion in the Intra-class screen since Bottle and Box are both in the Item class.

In the Standard tab we see that 1 Bottle is equal to 1 Item (the base UOM).

5

Page 6: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Next, in the Intra-class screen (after adding a new line for 16571) we select Box as the Source UOM so that we can specify that a Box of our item = 4 Items.

Since in the Standard conversion screen we saw that 1 Bottle = 1 Item, we know the above screen sets 1 Box = 4 Bottles. The conversion will always be to the base unit.

Scenario 2: Antibiotic 20479 needs to be set up. It comes 10 to a pack, with 2 packs in a box and 20 boxes to a case.

How do we set this up?

1 pack = 10 Items

1 Box = 2 packs (or 20 Items)

1 Case = 20 Boxes (or 400 Items)

First, find the primary UOM in the Item Master.

Next, use the Units of Measure screen to find out which classes hold these UOMs.

7

Page 8: UOM Conversions Step by Step

All three, Case, Box and Pack are in the Item class.

8

Page 9: UOM Conversions Step by Step

What is the base UOM for the Item class?

In the Standard Conversion screen we see that both Box and Case are set to 1 Item.

9

Page 10: UOM Conversions Step by Step

In the Intra-class screen we set up the conversions.

10

Scenario 3: Item 32041 is a one meter section of sterile oxygen tubing. This length of tubing comes sealed in a custom bottle. There are four bottles to a box and ten boxes in a case.

How is this set up?

1 Meter = 1 Item

1 Bottle = 1 Item

1 Box = 4 Items (bottles)

1 Case = 40 Items (bottles)

First, make sure you know what the primary UOM is from the Item Master screen. In this case, it’s Meter2.

11

Page 12: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Next, find out what classes all these UOMs are in.

Case, Box and Bottle are in the Item class but Meter2 is in the Length2 class.

This means we will have to set up a conversion across the two classes.

12

Page 13: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Let’s make sure all the Standard conversions we need are present in the Item class…

Now let’s set up the conversions for our specific Item. We know that an Item is the same as a bottle from the screen above.

Note; all these UOMs are set by the system when created to equal 1 of the base units. Unless changed, any math is times 1 (as in scenario #1).

13

Page 14: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Because 32041 is in the Length2 class…

…we look at the existing Standard conversions that are set up.

14

Page 15: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Our one meter long piece of tubing is equal to 1000 millimeters.

Now let’s set up the Item specific Inter-class (across class) conversion…

Now 1 item in the Item Class equals 1000 millimeters in the Length2 class.

15

Page 16: UOM Conversions Step by Step

Now that the Inter-class conversion is set up, we can set up the conversions for the length of tubing as an Item.

16

Page 17: UOM Conversions Step by Step

By the way, if you get this screen…

…you are trying to enter the conversion in the wrong class.
